Village Seeks Snow Angels To Help Seniors, Disabled People Shovel

The program is in its second year since village officials enacted it in Feb. of 2021, but more volunteers are needed.

ORLAND PARK, IL — The village is seeking more volunteers for a new Snow Angels program to help elderly and disabled residents shovel their driveways and sidewalks.

The program was approved in February of 2021 and has already seen one successful season, officials told Patch. Currently, the program works as a matchmaking service which pairs a resident who needs help shoveling with a nearby volunteer to help them remove snow.

The elderly or disabled resident is given a list of local volunteers to call in the event snow piles up on their driveway or sidewalk. Program officials said residents cannot be scheduled to work and volunteers should only be called once snow starts to fall for sure.

According to a social media post, many Snow Angels are students who earn service hours by helping out. With schools returning to in-person learning for the spring semester, the program is searching for more volunteers to ensure no resident is left snowed in.
