Woman Found In Park Ridge With Gunshot Wound Accidentally Shot Self

The woman reportedly had initially told police she had been the victim of a robbery in Chicago.

PARK RIDGE, IL β€” A woman who suffered a gunshot wound and told police in Park Ridge that she was the victim of a robbery in Chicago actually accidentally shot herself and made up the story about the robbery, the Chicago Sun Times reports.

Officers responded to the 100 block of North Meacham Avenue around 8:45 a.m. Friday for a person shot. The 19-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to the left leg and police were initially told she and her friend had been victims of a robber in Chicago, according to the report.

Police later learned the woman had accidentally shot herself in Chicago and her friend then drove to Park Ridge to seek medical help.
