6 Roosters Used For Cockfights, Plainfield Man Charged: Report

The man was pulled over when police found he was hauling six roosters and cockfighting equipment in his vehicle, according to reports.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A Plainfield man, charged with multiple felonies, was found hauling roosters and cockfighting paraphernalia early Saturday in Marengo, according to a report from WJOL.

During a traffic stop, 51-year-old Jose Miguel Alicea-Reyes admitted to Marengo police to owning the roosters, which he was transporting along with equipment including sharpened steel spurs, padded beak covers, needles and antibiotics, and almost $10,000 in cash, according to the radio station.

The six roosters in the car were turned over to the McHenry County Animal Center, according to Lake McHenry Scanner.

Alicea-Reyes was charged with six counts of owning animals for sport fighting and one count of selling equipment for animal fighting, the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office reported.

Alicea-Reyes was released on May 12, and his next court appearance is scheduled for June 10.
