PLAINFIELD, IL — Nine ducklings were rescued from a storm drain on Tuesday, according to the Plainfield Fire Protection District.
In a release, the district said that Plainfield residents Jerry and Tari Heintz were outside when they noticed a duck pacing back and forth by the drain. When they walked over, they heard the ducklings.
Fire Chief Jon Stratton and Battalion Chief Chuck Kraft were driving through the area, and they were flagged down north of the traffic circle at Drauden and Renwick roads. Kraft was able to reach into the storm drain and rescue all nine ducklings while their mom stood by watching, the release stated. Once all the ducklings were rescued they wandered off towards a pond.
