Golden Globe Nominee and Plainfield Native Melissa McCarthy on the Red Carpet

McCarthy explains how she prepared for her role in the comedy "Spy."

Nominated for a Golden Globe for best actress in a musical or comedy, Melissa McCarthy spoke with Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet prior to Sunday night’s award ceremony. McCarthy starred in the comedy film “Spy.” She appeared in an inky black metallic gown, which she helped design, and told Seacrest she’d be open to another “Spy” movie.

“It’s certainly a character I loved, I would go back to her in a minute, but we’ll see,” said McCarthy, 45, who grew up in Plainfield.

McCarthy was accompanied by her husband, 42-year-old Ben Falcone, who appeared with her in the 2011 movie “Bridesmaids.” McCarthy is currently filming a new “Ghostbusters” movie.

Her fellow nominees include Jennifer Lawrence, “Joy” (who won the award); Amy Schumer, “Trainwreck”; Maggie Smith, “The Lady in the Van”; and Lily Tomlin, “Grandma”.
