Multiple D202 Schools To Get Free Meals During 2024-25 Academic Year

PLAINFIELD, IL — More than a dozen Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 schools will receive free meals during the 2024-25 academic year.

The free breakfasts and lunches for students were made possible by the United States Department of Agriculture's Community Eligibility Provision program.

"The Community Eligibility Provision is beneficial because it provides free breakfast and free lunch to all students and offers economic relief to families," Richard Engstrom, assistant superintendent of business and operations for District 202, said in a statement. "We are thrilled to have this opportunity to serve the community."

All students at participating schools will be eligible to receive a free breakfast and lunch each school day, as long as District 202 and its food provider, Aramark, continue to comply with government requirements, officials said.

Meals will not be individualized. Elementary students will get to pick between two choices and middle and high school students will select at least three items. Complete meals will include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, meat or meat alternatives, and milk.
