Plainfield Approves $52.9M Budget

Potential state cuts, rising health insurance costs, police hires, and contractual salary increases.

PLAINFIELD – The Plainfield Village Board approved its $52.9 million budget on Monday for the 2016-17 Fiscal year that includes potential state cuts, rising health insurance costs, police hires, and contractual salary increases while providing $3.5 million more in capital improvements.

The budget plan is the result of months of workshop meetings that began in September. The new fiscal year begins May 1.

The village’s property tax rate – 0.4669 – will not increase, meaning homeowners will pay the same on the village’s portion of his or her tax bill unless home values go up, Village Trustee Brian Wojowski said.

“The village’s portion of the tax bill is not increased with the passage of this budget,” Wojowski said.

Village officials anticipate about $58.6 million in revenue – an increase from $55.3 million over the current fiscal year – and about $56.6 million in expenses, up from the current year’s $51 million.
