Family Escapes Plainfield House Fire: FD

The family escaped the house fire safely, Plainfield fire officials said.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A single-family home in the 16500 block of Lewood Drive broke out in flames Sunday evening, causing about $150,000 in damages, Plainfield Fire Protection District officials said.

When Plainfield crews were dispatched at 6:12 p.m., they found heavy smoke conditions and fire extending from the back of the garage, up the side of the house, and into the second floor and attic. The family, who had been home at the time, escaped safely, according to a news release.

"Firefighters quickly deployed several house lines and started to extinguish the fire," officials wrote, adding that ComEd and Nicor were also called in to secure utilities.

The fire remains under investigation, according to the department.
