Plainfield South Reports More COVID-19 Cases Than Central, North

According to WCHD data, Plainfield-south has 705 cases, the north has 252 and the central part has 398.

PLAINFIELD, IL — There is a disparity in the total number of coronavirus cases between the three parts of the village with Plainfield-south reporting the highest number, according to public health data. The Will County Health Department website shows that as of Wednesday, the south side of the village (zip code 60586) has 705 cases, whereas the north side (zip code 60440585) has 252 and the central part (zip code 60544) has 398.

In the last one month, cases in Plainfield-south have increased from 507, with not more than a maximum of 26 cases reported in one day. In Plainfield-north, there were 164 cases at the beginning of August, with a high number of 12 cases reported on Aug. 24. Plainfield-central had 278 with a high of 16 case on Aug. 3.

As of Wednesday, 4 new cases were reported in the central side, 3 were reported on the north side and the south side had no new COVID-19 cases.

Coronavirus positivity rates in Illinois' South Suburban region is continuing to increase, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. As of Thursday, the region has a positivity rate of 8.8 percent, which is higher than Friday's 8.4 percent.

Last week, Gov. J.B. Pritzker issued a set of new restrictions in Region 7 — the Will-Kankakee region — triggered by regional coronavirus mitigation metrics, and as state public health officials announced the week before that the county had reached a COVID-19 "warning level."
