Plainfield Teen Dies In Single-Vehicle Crash Friday: Police

The 17-year-old boy was airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he succumbed to his injuries.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A 17-year-old Plainfield resident died in a fatal single-vehicle crash Friday, police said. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified the teen as Jaden Sherman.

According to a release from the Plainfield Police Department, members of the Plainfield Police Department and the Plainfield Fire Protection District responded to the area of Van Dyke Road and Shagbark Drive at 5:24 p.m. for a serious traffic crash.

"Upon arrival, officers discovered a single-vehicle traffic crash involving a BMW 3351 with an extensive amount of damage," Plainfield Police Commander Anthony Novak said in the release.

Sherman, who was the driver and only occupant of the vehicle, was transported to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora with life-threatening injuries. He was later airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he succumbed to his injuries, Novak said.

Preliminary investigation of the traffic crash indicates the car was traveling northbound on Van Dyke Road, just north of 127th St. at high speed. The driver of the BMW passed an uninvolved vehicle, lost control of the BMW and struck two utility poles, police said.

With the assistance of the Plainfield Emergency Management Agency personnel, the roadway remained closed for several hours while the investigation was conducted. According to a social media post by the Plainfield police, there was serious power outage in the area due to the crash.


The roadway has since been opened, while the crash currently remains under investigation.
