Reckless Driving, DUI With Kid In The Car Leads To Woman's Arrest: PPD
The woman was stopped for improper lane usage when officers found she was driving with a child in the car, Plainfield police said.
PLAINFIELD, IL — A Joliet woman reported to be driving recklessly on Jan. 10 was also discovered to be driving under the influence with a child in the car, police allege.
Plainfield police were called at about 5:10 p.m. to the area around Route 59 and 143rd Street for a report of a Kia sedan driving recklessly, resulting in one of the responding officers conducting a traffic stop for improper lane usage.
Initial reports indicated the Kia was cutting off other cars, causing people to swerve, and almost crashing into multiple cars, Administrative Sergeant Luke Ostreko told Patch.

The Kia stopped in the parking lot of Shell, the gas station neighboring Plainfield Police Department headquarters. Ostreko said officers made contact with the driver, identified as Jalessa Johnson, and conducted a driving under the influence investigation "based on the initial reckless driving complaint and their observations."
Officers also noticed a young child in the car with Johnson, whose address is listed in the 900 block of Lois Place.

Officers conducted Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, and the results informed the officer's decision to arrest Johnson, Ostreko said. Johnson was arrested and cited for improper lane usage, reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, transportation of open alcohol, and endangering the health or life of a child.
The woman was taken to the Plainfield Police Department for processing. She was released, and officers remained with the child until a relative arrived and took custody, Ostreko said.
