Resident Puts Out 'Majority' Of Fire Before Crews Arrive: Lockport FD

The family safely evacuated the residence in unincorporated Plainfield after the fire started, officials said.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A resident of an unincorporated Plainfield house that caught fire Sunday night extinguished the "majority" of the blaze before firefighters arrived, officials said.

The Lockport Township Fire Protection District responded to the fire that broke out at 10:13 p.m. in the 14100 block of Monticello Circle. When crews arrived, they found the resident putting out the fire on the exterior of the garage, according to a Monday morning news release.

Firefighters took over and finished extinguishing and checking for extension.

The blaze likely started on the exterior of the house and spread into the garage and attic space. Lockport Township fire officials said the cause appears to be accidental.

The occupants exited the residence safely when the fire started, and no injuries were reported at the time of the incident. The fire's damage was limited to the exterior and garage, officials said.
