PLAINFIELD, IL — This year's edition of the Plainfield Harvest 5K Walk/Run will have a new location and route Sunday, thanks to ongoing road construction. But the long-standing event will still offer its mix of exercise and entertainment.

The 21st edition of the Harvest 5K will begin and end Sunday at the Avery YMCA, 15120 Wailin Dr., and the course will follow Ottawa Street to Settlers Park and then back to the YMCA. The Kids Miler will start near Ira Jones Middle School and will travel to Ottawa and Ingersoll and then back, according to Plainfield Police. Previous versions of the race took off from Village Green.

The Kidz Miler will take off at 8:30 a.m., with the 5K starting at 9 a.m. Road closures near the route will be in effect at 8 a.m. and will likely open back up after 11 a.m., according to Plainfield Police.

Registration for the race will be available up until 15 minutes prior to the starting gun, and can be done online. An early bird price of $35 is available to those who register before 7 p.m. Thursday. After that, registration will cost $40. Registration for the Kidz Miler will cost $15 though 7 p.m. Thursday, then will cost $18 afterwards.

New this year is that the first 1,000 finishers will receive a finisher medal when crossing the finish line. A number of other prizes will be given, including $100 for first place finishers for both men and women. Second place finishers will win $50 and third place will earn $25. First through third-place finishers in each age category will receive a medal.

An after race party will be held at Tap House Grill for food, entertainment and complimentary refreshments.

All race participants must use the parking lots at the YMCA, Village Hall, DuPage medical building or First Midwest Bank. More information on the event can be found here.
