Village Approves Hike In Citation Fees For Calling Animal Control

For situations where the Will Co. Animal Control needs to be called, the citation fees for such violations has increased from $100 to $150.

PLAINFIELD, IL — During its Monday meeting, the Plainfield Village Board approved a hike in the service fee charged by Will County Animal Control when residents call about animals located in their residential premises, or when their pet gets out.

Police Chief John Konopek told the board that the police department currently manages an administrative fee schedule related to the issuance of administrative citations. The schedule was modified earlier this year with village board approval.

The village has since been advised of an increase in animal control service fees charged by WCAC. The service fee charged for an animal call-out during regular business hours
(Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) has increased from $100 to $130, the service fee charged after hours and for weekend and holidays has increased from $150 to $200, and the fee for an emergency call-out has increased from $250to $300.

"In each situation, the village is charged the applicable service fee regardless of whether an animal is taken into custody," Konopek said.

In consideration of the fee increase, he said administrative fees for citations related to situations where animal control needs to be called also needs to be increased. Those situations include:

  • Keeping of miniature pigs
  • Keeping of dogs/cats in excess of the permitted number in the village
  • Prohibition of animals at large
  • Restraint of dogs
  • Public nuisance caused by an animal.

The penalty for violating this has now increased from the current $100 to $150.
