ROCKFORD, IL — The former director of a Rockford charter school is charged with theft after she stole thousands of dollars of school funds for her own gain, according to state police.

Former Jackson Charter School Executive Director Emily A. Wallen, 39, was arrested Monday on charges of felony theft of $10,000 to $100,000 and felony official misconduct, police said, adding she was taken to Winnebago County Jail.

State police received an allegation of theft and misconduct in September against Wallen, according to authorities. An investigation revealed evidence that Wallen knowingly used the school’s funds for personal gain while she was working there, police said.
