Missing Mom, Boyfriend Found Dead; Ex Reportedly Kills Himself

The bodies of Danielle Son, 22, and her boyfriend, Sergio Quiroz, 25, were found in a Rockford park early Thursday morning.

ROCKFORD, IL — The bodies of a 22-year-old mother of two and her boyfriend who had been reported missing were found Thursday morning in Blackhawk Park in Rockford, police said. The woman's estranged husband died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.

All three people, Danielle Son, 22, her boyfriend, Sergio Quiroz, 25 and Son's estranged husband Hand Son, 26, had been reported missing and endangered.

Hand Son was seen driving his car around 4 a.m. near the intersection of 10th Street and 12th Avenue when detectives began following him. Police say they were able to reach Son on the phone while following him. When detectives tried to stop Son, he struck a police car, drove onto the west shoulder of the street and his car eventually overturned after hitting a mound of snow, police said.

Danielle Son's family had not heard from her since Saturday. Police investigating the case found that her boyfriend and estranged husband were also missing. On Wednesday, a warrant was issued for Hand Son on two counts of kidnapping, according to police.

Danielle Son's two toddlers were found at her home alone but unharmed.

Danielle Son filed for divorce from her husband on Feb. 7, just 10 days before her family last heard from her, the Star reported. Less than a month earlier, on Jan. 14, she called police to file a domestic violence report against Hand Son, saying he had pushed her at her 10th Avenue home. Hand Son told police he believed his wife was cheating on him and lying about it, according to the Star. A no-contact order was issued barring Hand Son from contacting his wife.
