Teen Fatally Shot On Rockford Street: Police

Teen fatally shot in head while walking with group on Rockford street, according to police.

ROCKFORD, IL — The Rockford Police Department said it's investigating after a male teen was fatally shot in the head Monday, Jan. 21 in the 700 block of Kent Street. According to Rockford police, officers responded to a report of shots fired in that area just before 4 p.m., and when they arrived officers found a 15-year-old male victim lying in the street suffering from a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

Police said it's believed the victim was walking with a group of friends when they were confronted by an unknown number of suspects in a car. Shots were then fired from the vehicle at the group, hitting and killing the teen victim.

According to police, detectives from the department are doing a follow-up investigation, and the victim's identity isn't being released pending family notification.
