Student Stabbed, 2 Taken Into Custody During Fight At High School

Springfield police said the incident occurred Monday, the first day back to school for students in the area.

SPRINGFIELD, IL — A student was stabbed during a fight at a Springfield public high school Monday, the first day back to school, Springfield police said.

The fight occurred at Southeast High School on the 2300 block of East Ash Street at around 11:30 a.m. and involved three students, school officials said.

There was a heavy police presence in the area until the injured student was taken to a local hospital to receive precautionary medical care. Police said the student was treated onsite first by a school nurse.

Two other students were taken into police custody.

Parents and families in the district were warned via email to expect extra security measures at the high school through Tuesday.
