2-Month-Old Girl Falls Onto CTA Tracks But Not Seriously Hurt
Bystanders rescued the infant who slipped out of her stroller and onto the Blue Line tracks Thursday morning.

CHICAGO, IL — An infant girl wasn't seriously hurt Thursday after she came out of her stroller and fell into the small gap between a CTA platform and a standing rail car at a West Side station, the Chicago Tribune reports. The 2-month-old girl fell 4 feet onto the Blue Line tracks at the Illinois Medical District station but luckily avoided the electrified third rail, the report stated.
The girl was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, the report added. Although the CTA is reviewing security footage to see how such an unusual incident could have occurred, Chicago police are treating the fall as an accident, a department spokesman said Thursday. According to CTA spokeswoman Irene Ferradaz, the accident happened at around 8:45 a.m. Thursday, July 27, as the girl's mother was pushing her in a stroller as they exited a southbound train at the station at 430 S. Damen Ave., the Tribune reports. That's when authorities initially believe the infant slipped out of the stroller after it became caught on something, the report added.

The station's power was shut off after the child fell to the tracks, and bystanders at the station quickly moved to get the girl back on the platform, the report stated. Blue Line service only was delayed for about 10 minutes, the report added.
“This is very, very, very rare," Ferradaz told the Tribune.
