2016 Shootings Pinned On South Side Man: Cops
Joseph Brown, 25, has been charged with attempted murder and first-degree murder stemming from two incidents last year.

CHICAGO, IL — A South Side man is accused in an attempted murder and an armed robbery that turned into a murder when a 50-year-old man was fatally shot, according to Chicago police. Both shootings happened in 2016 on the West Side. Joseph Brown, 25, of the 4700 block of South Indiana Avenue in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and first-degree murder in the crimes.
Brown was arrested at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday after he had been identified in both shootings, according to police. The first incident happened at about 7:50 p.m. Oct. 19, 2016, in the 200 block of South Central Avenue of the South Austin neighborhood when Brown and another suspect allegedly shot a 22-year-old man, wounding him in thbe right shoulder and both legs, police said. The victim was hospitalized in serious condition and Mount Sinai Hospital, and he survived the shooting, police added.
The second incident happened at around 7:20 p.m. Nov. 2, 2016, in the 300 block of West Fifth Avenue in the Garfield Park neighborhood, police said. Brown is accused of trying to rob a man, 50, before fatally shooting him, according to police. Brown was already in custody while awaiting trial for an unrelated felony arrest from 2016, police said. His bail hearing is Friday.
