(Broadview, IL) – The Deputy Chief of the Broadview Fire Department, Matthew Martin, has been appointed as the department’s acting chief.

Martin’s appointment comes on the heels of the retirement of Tracy Kenny, the department first female fire chief, who departed at the beginning of March.

“As deputy fire chief, Matthew Martin is ideally qualified to serve as acting fire chief,” said Mayor Katrina Thompson. “I have full confidence in Matthew leadership to guide the fire department during this period of transition and to continue ensure the public safety of Broadview residents.”

Martin, who has more than 20-years of fire service experience, had previously served as the fire training officer in the Village of Westchester before being appointed as Broadview’s deputy fire chief in May 2022.

“I am grateful to Mayor Thompson for her confidence in my ability to lead the Broadview Fire Department during this transition period,” said Martin. “Chief Kenny is my model of leadership excellence, and I will follow her example of prioritizing professionalism in the department and maintaining public safety in the community.”
