Death Of Man Found Outside NW Side Home Ruled As Cold-Related
The 59-year-old man was discovered last week on a Belmont Heights back porch.

CHICAGO, IL — A 59-year-old man found unconscious last week on a Northwest Side porch is the 27th reported cold-related death this winter in Cook County. The death also was the 14th related to the cold in which alcohol and drug played a role.
According to Chicago police, the man was discovered at around 9:45 p.m. Friday, March 9, on the back porch of a house in the 3800 block of North Oconto Avenue in the Belmont Heights neighborhood when someone tried to get his attention, the Chicago Tribune reports. He was taken to Community FIrst Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 9:4o a.m. Sunday, March 11, the report added.
The Cook County medical examiner's office determined in an autopsy that the man's death was accidental, the report stated. Chronic alcoholism was ruled as the cause of death, and hypothermia because of cold exposure was listed as a contributing factor, the report added.
