Diabetic Marine Veteran Fatally Shot On Way To Dialysis Treatment

The 60-year-old victim was shot and killed early Saturday in the East Garfield Park neighborhood.

CHICAGO, IL — Police are searching for a man who allegedly shot and killed a 60-year-old Marine veteran on his way to dialysis treatment on the West Side over the weekend. The fatal shooting happened at around 4:57 a.m. Saturday, July 15, in the 400 block of North Kedzie Avenue in the East Garfield Park, according to a Chicago police alert released Tuesday.

The diabetic veteran was walking from his home to a dialysis treatement facility when the victim was confronted by the alleged shooter, police said. The accused shooter brandished a chrome-plated revolver and demanded the victim's wallet. When he refused to surrender his wallet, the victim was fatally shot, and the alleged shooter fled on foot eastbound on Franklin Boulevard from Kedzie, according to police. The suspect was described by police as a black man between 5-feet-10 and 6-feet tall. He was wearing dark clothing and a white half max with red on it at the time of the shooting, according to the police alert. The identity of the vicim has not been released by the police.
