Firefighter Hurt In North Lawndale Fire
Emergency crews also needed to rescue a resident from the burning 3-story building Friday morning.

CHICAGO, IL — A Chicago firefighter was injured battling a blaze Friday morning on the West Side, the fire department said. The fire happened in the 1800 block of South Avers Avenue in the North Lawndale neighborhood. No other injuries were reported from the fire.
According to the department, the firefighter suffered burns battling the blaze and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. He was in good condition at the hospital, the fire department said.
Crews were able to extinguish the fire just after 6 a.m., and five people were displaced because of the blaze. Firefighters also needed to rescue one resident who was trapped on the top floor of the three-story building, according to ABC 7 Chicago. Investigators have not determined the cause of the fire yet.
The North Lawndale blaze was one of two fires emergency crews were handling Friday morning. No one was reported hurt at a South Side fire the ignited on the back porch of a building near Claremont Avenue and 64th Street in the West Englewood neighborhood, CBS 2 Chicago reports. The fire was extinguished just before 6:30 a.m., and officials were still investigating the cause of the blaze.
