CHICAGO -- Police arrested a 12-year-old gang member on the city's Southwest Side Tuesday evening after reportedly receiving "multiple calls" about a person in the area with a gun.

The boy was found in Lawndale's 1800 block of South Kostner Avenue, Chicago Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a Wednesday morning Tweet. The Sun-Times Media reported that the child admitted to being in a gang during the police search that uncovered his semi-automatic handgun.

He was charged as a juvenile with unauthorized use of a weapon.
