West Side Robbery Suspect Dies After Being Held By Chicago Police
The man, 26, was the 2nd person to die in the past week after being taken into custody by authorities.

CHICAGO, IL — A West Side robbery suspect died Monday night while in Chicago police custody, according to the Chicago Tribune. The 26-year-old man was taken to a local hospital when he became unresponsive after he was taken into custody in the Lawndale neighborhood. He was the second person to die in the past week while being detained by authorities.
According to Chicago police, the suspect, who has not been identified, was taken into custody at around 8:10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 4, in the 1600 block of South Pulaski Road, the report stated. Officers had been investigating a robbery in the area at that time, the report added.
About 10 minutes later, paramedics took the man in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, the report stated. He was pronounced dead at around 9:10 p.m. at the hospital, but his identity had not been released as of Tuesday evening. This is the second time in a few days that an individual being held by Chicago police has died. On Tuesday, a Cook County Jail guard found Nathaniel Griffin Jr., 23, dead in the facility. According to the Cook County Sheriff's Office, Griffin allegedly killed himself. He was facing an attempted murder charge and had been ordered held without bail since April 12.
