Despite Officers' Warnings, Drunken Man Flees Wilmette Police: Blotter

Over $9,000 in fraudulent money orders processed at Walgreens; burglars ransack Wilmette homes: New Trier Township Police Blotters

NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments and court records as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.


GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

BIKE THEFT

Someone stole a possibly unlocked bicycle worth $350 from the 1000 block of Forestway Drive prior to about 4:15 p.m. on May 26.

LICENSE PLATE THEFT
Someone stole a dealership plate from the CarMax, 2000 Frontage Road, prior to 11:45 a.m. on May 26.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 600 block of Vernon Avenue reported around 5:30 p.m. on May 27 that someone had caused about $1,000 in damage to their car by putting sugar into its gas tank.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Lakewood Drive resident reported on the morning of May 27 that someone had used their identity to open a credit card without authorization.

PACKAGE THEFT
Someone stole two packages worth $1,250 that had been delivered to a home in the 1000 block of Hohlfelder Road prior to about 3:15 p.m. on May 31.


NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

CREDIT CARD FRAUD

A Harding Road resident reported on the afternoon of May 25 that they had noticed recent fraudulent activity on their credit card.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Adam Morris, 35, of the 4800 block of North Seeley Avenue, Chicago, was processed by Northfield police on an arrest warrant for a charge of misdemeanor theft stemming from a Sept. 21, 2021, theft of a bicycle at New Trier High School's west campus at 7 S. Happ Road. He separately faces charges connected to bicycles stolen from Optima Old Orchard condominiums in Skokie.

John R. Laird, 21, of the 2100 block of Drury Lane, Northfield, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. on May 28 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following an investigation into a crash at Willow Road and Forestway Drive. Officers issued Laird citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, improper lane usage, improper turn, improper passing of a vehicle and expired registration.

WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

STOLEN CARS
Someone stole an unlocked car parked on the street in the 1100 block of Oak Street between 7 p.m. May 22 and 8 a.m. May 23. Someone also stole an unlocked car from a driveway in the 200 block of Linden Avenue between 5:30 p.m. May 22 and 8 a.m. May 23. Both cars were valued above $5,000, and neither report specified if their keys had been left inside.

IDENTITY THEFT
An Elm Street resident reported that someone used their identity to open up unauthorized accounts at T-Mobil, Verizon and Aaron's rent-to-own furniture between Jan. 28 and May 24. The amount of loss had not been determined at the time of the report.

THEFT OF UNATTENDED PROPERTY
A purse that had been left unattended at an outdoor seating area outside Mino's Italian, 985 Green Bay Road, was stolen prior to 8:15 p.m. on May 22. The purse, along with the wireless headphones, credit, debit and gift cards, wallet and cash it contained, were valued at $2,340.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY
Someone got into the Winnetka Golf Club, 1300 Oak Street, between 9 p.m. May 26 and 6 a.m. May 27 and stole various office and golf-related items for a loss greater than $5,000. It is the second burglary reported at the club in 10 days.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone got into an unlocked car parked in an alley near the 1000 block of Cherry Street between 5:45 p.m. on May 22 and 5:45 a.m. on May 23 but nothing was reported stolen at the time of the report.
  • Someone stole a garage door opener worth $15 from inside an unlocked car parked in the 100 block of Birch Street between 4 and 4:50 a.m. on May 23.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Yuge Wang, 52, of the 800 block of Cherry Street, Winnetka, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on May 28 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop near the intersection of Willow Road and Auburn Avenue. Officers also cited Wang for speeding 26 to 34 mph above the limit.


KENILWORTH

INCIDENTS

BIKE THEFT
Someone stole a bicycle worth $100 that had been left unlocked at the rack at Sears School, 542 Abbotsford Road., at some point between May 9 and May 16, police were told.


WILMETTE

INCIDENTS

MONEY ORDER FRAUD
Two men made three fraudulent Western Union transactions totaling $9,120 around 5:45 p.m. on May 15 at the Walgreens, 3232 Lake Ave.

BIKE THEFT
Someone stole a blue Schwinn bicycle of unspecified value that had been locked to a pole in the 400 block of Ridge Road, police were told on May 22.

SHOPLIFTING
Two shoplifters stole an unspecified amount of alcohol from the Jewel-Osco, 411 Green Bay Road, around 7:15 p.m. on May 22. Officers dispatched to the scene were unable to find the thieves.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Marian Lane resident reported on May 24 that they asked someone who had been sending them unwanted text messages to stop. In response, the sender provided the resident with their name, address, phone number, internet protocol address and Visa credit card number and demanded that the resident send $300 or the sender would "ruin" their life. The resident blocked messages from the sender and later discovered unauthorized charges on their credit card.

VANDALISM
On May 26, an officer discovered graffiti with the words "phex" and "stix" on the back of parking signs in the Metra parking lot.

HOME BURGLARIES

  • A resident in the 700 block Lacrosse Avenue reported on May 20 that someone had forced their way into their home, ransacked multiple rooms and stole items of unspecified value.
  • Someone got into a possibly unlocked home in the 500 block of Koerper Court on or before May 21, ransacked various rooms and and stole various unspecified items.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Rachel Solomon Duncan, 41, of the 400 block of Sheridan Road, Kenilworth, was arrested around 7:30 p.m. on May 22 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater following a traffic stop of a BMW SUV she was driving in the 900 block of Ridge Road. Officers also ticketed her for speeding and not wearing a seat belt.

James T. Harris, 39, of the first block of 112th Place, Chicago, was arrested shortly after midnight on the morning of May 26 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, criminal damage to property, fleeing or attempting to elude police and driving with a suspended license after officers were called to the 400 block of Ridge Road for a report of a disturbance. Police found Harris seated in his car holding an open container of alcohol and, despite warnings from officers, drove away. Officers also issued him citations for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver, improper lane usage and driving without lights. The investigation determined that Harris had damaged the storm door of the Ridge Road home before police got there.
