WILMETTE, IL — The official start of summer means Independence Day is less than two weeks away, and Wilmette residents are preparing for their tradition summer celebrations.

While Wilmette went ahead with a fireworks show last year, many cities and villages across the country are reviving back many of the traditional Independence Day activities that were either canceled or modified the last two years.

With July 4 just around the corner, it's time to find out what Fourth of July fireworks and festivities are going on near you in 2022.

Here's what's in store on Sunday, July 3, and Monday, July 4, in Wilmette:

What: Yankee Doodle Dash 5k
When: 8 a.m. on July 3 (pre-registration required)
Where: Gillson Park and a 3.1 mile course through the city

When: 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. music performances, 9:30 p.m. fireworks on July 4
