NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments and court records as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.


GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

SCAM ATTEMPT
A Forest Avenue resident reported on the morning of June 11 that someone had sent them demands for money via social media. The resident blocked unknown accounts, did not send any money and called police.

ELUDING POLICE
Around 6 p.m. on June 19, a motorist driving a car with registration violations fled from a Glencoe police officer who was trying to conduct a traffic stop at Green Bay Road and Merrill Street in Winnetka.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 600 block of Westley Road reported that someone had somehow caused about $150 damage to property between 1 and 1:30 a.m. on June 25.

JEWELRY THEFT

  • Police were told on June 21 that someone had stolen jewelry valued at $5,000 from a resident in the 500 block of Jackson Avenue at some point between May 10 and June 14.
  • Someone stole $8,500 worth of jewelry from a home in the 300 block of Shoreline Court between June 23 and June 27.

BICYCLE THEFTS

  • Someone stole a bicycle that had been left unlocked at the racked outside the Glencoe Metra Station at 724 Green Bay Road at some point prior to 8 a.m. June 10.
  • At some point between 7 a.m. June 15 and 6 p.m. June 16, someone cut off the lock and stole a bicycle from the 700 block of Old Green Bay Road. The bike was valued at $457.
  • A locked bicycle worth $800 was stolen from the 700 block of Old Green Bay Road between 8 a.m. June 22 and 5 p.m. June 23 after someone cut off the lock.

ARRESTS

Mike Mazur, 21, of the 1500 block of Magnolia Street, Glenview, was arrested around 2:30 p.m. on June 21 after officers showed up at a two-car traffic crash in the 800 block of Grove Street and arrested him on driving under the influence of alcohol charges. There were no injuries in the collision, and Mazur was also issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

Tyler Ditomasso, 31, of the 800 block of Elm Street, Winnetka, was arrested around 1 a.m. on June 26 following a traffic stop in the 800 block of Hibbard Road and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Officers also cited Ditomasso for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver and speeding.

Wilma McCray, 55, of the 7800 block of South Phillips Avenue, Chicago, was arrested in the 800 block of Sheridan Road after crashing into a sign. She was charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence of drugs, unlawful use of a weapon and criminal damage to property after police found a taser-type device in the car. Officers also issued her citations for no proof of insurance and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.


NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

HOME BURGLARY
Someone broke into a home in the first block of Bristol Road at some point between 2 p.m. June 5 and midnight on June 6 after forcing open a window on tits second floor. Thieves made off with jewelry and watches, the value of which was not known at the time of the report.

PURPORTED INVESTIGATOR
A resident in the first block of Steeple Chase Lane reported on June 7 that, around 7:45 p.m. the prior evening, someone claiming to be an investigator had come to their front door and began asking questions about an unspecified matter before leaving in an unidentified car.

ANTISEMITIC PROPAGANDA
On the evening of June 7, a resident in the 300 block of Sunset Ridge Road reported finding multiple plastic bags containing antisemitic materials in the parkway. Another plastic bag with antisemitic materials were found in the 300 block of Riverdale Drive on the morning of June 9. In both cases, police reviewed the materials and determined they posed no threats.

IRATE CUSTOMERS
Staff at the Fields Land Rover dealership, 670 W. Frontage Road, called police around 9:30 a.m. on June 14 to report that a man had begun cursing and screaming at employees regarding an issue with his car. The customer left before officers arrived and did not threaten anyone, but staff asked police to inform him that he was banned from the dealership.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Winnetka Road resident reported on the afternoon of June 14 that someone had recently made an unauthorized credit card account transaction of $12,000 or over.

JEWELRY THEFT
Someone stole jewelry from inside of a home in the 2100 block of Drury Lane at some point in March, police were told on June 23.

INCIDENTS

HOME BURGLARY
Someone got into an unlocked home in the 900 block of Sunset Road between 3:15 and 3:25 p.m. on June 10 and stole more than $5,000 worth of jewelry from inside.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole cash and credit cards from inside a car left unlocked at Duke Childs' Field, 1321 Willow Road, for a loss of $150.

SIGN THEFT
Someone stole the Hibbard Road and Sunset Road signs from the intersection of the two street between 5 p.m. June 19 and 9 a.m. on June 22 for a $400 loss. The signpost had also been removed from the group.

BIKE THEFTS

  • Someone stole a bicycle worth $900 that had been locked to the rack at New Trier High School between 8 a.m. May 23 and 3:30 p.m. on May 26.
  • Someone stole an unlocked bike from the parking lot at Tower Road Beach, 725 Sheridan Road, between 3:30 and 5 p.m. on June 26 for a loss of nearly $550.

CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT

  • Someone used a permanent marker to deface a home and car in the 900 block of Pine Street between 7:30 p.m. June 7 and 7:30 a.m. June 8.
  • At some point between June 1 and June 15, someone spray-painted two utility boxes in the 900 block of Old Green Bay Road, causing $750 in repair costs.
  • Someone caused $375 in damage to a concrete wall near the intersection of Cherry Street and Green Bay Road at some point since August 2021 by spray painting it. Spray paint also caused $375 in damage to a wall at Oak Street and Green Bay Road and Elm Street and Green Bay Road during the same timeframe.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

  • A resident in the 1500 block of Hazel Lane reported that someone did $200 in damage to the wires for a sprinkler system at some point between 9 a.m. May 18 and 9 a.m. June 9.
  • An officer discovered on June 15 that someone had damaged the windshield of a vehicle parked at Winnetka Public Works, 1390 Willow Road, at some point between March 8 and June 10, causing $400 in damage.
  • Someone damaged the hood of a car parked in the driveway of a home in the 800 block of Ash Street at some point between 7 p.m. June 16 and 6:45 a.m. June 17.
  • Someone caused $284 in damage to the tires of a car parked in the 1100 block of Merill Street between 4:30 p.m. June 24 and 8:15 a.m. on June 25.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • An Edgewood Lane resident reported on the morning of June 24 that someone had used their identity to make more than $111 in unauthorized purchases using a credit card between May 2 and June 24.
  • Someone used the identity of a Fairview Avenue resident to open an unauthorized Verizon account and rack up $190 in bills between November 2021 and June 26.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

James D. McQueen, 50, of the 1100 block of Cherry St., Winnetka, was arrested around 5 p.m. on June 7 at his home and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater. He was also issued a citation for improper passing of a vehicle.

Aaron P. Herbert, 32, of the 2300 block of Emerson Street, Evanston, was arrested around 9 a.m. on June 16 near the intersection of Green Bay Road and Merrill Street and charged with possession of more than 30 grams of cannabis and illegal transportation of cannabis. Police also issued him citations for unlawful use of an electronic communication device while driving, disobeying a traffic control device, operating a vehicle with expired registration and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Robert W. Yelton, 29, of the 200 block of North Jackson Road, Clarendon Hills, was arrested around 11:45 p.m. on June 18 in the 400 block of Sheridan Road and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater following an traffic stop. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.


KENILWORTH

INCIDENTS

CAR BURGLARY
Someone got into an unlocked car parked in the 500 block of Greenwood Avenue between 3 p.m. June 5 and 2:30 p.m. on June 6 and stole a wallet from the center console. Three fraudulent charges were made on two credit cards that had been in the wallet totaling nearly $3,555, while an unauthorized charge on the debit card was declined.


WILMETTE

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFTS
A Spencer Avenue resident reported on June 6 that someone had changed the address associated with their credit card and used their airline reward miles to buy about $12,000 worth of plane tickets. The resident contacted the credit card company, the plane tickets were canceled and the reward miles were refunded.

SHOPLIFTING
Staff at the Walgreens, 3232 Lake Ave., reported that a man who fled in a black Audi sedan had stolen about $1,500 worth of merchandise around 8:30 p.m. on June 9.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone broke the rear window of a Jeep parked in the 800 block of Elmwood Avenue at some point between 7 a.m. and 2:40 p.m. on June 10.

TRESPASSING
Officers were called to McKenzie School, 649 Prairie Ave., around 7 p.m. on June 12 for a report fo children on the roof. The officer found two of them nearby and spoke to the parents of all the children involved.

FRAUD
An Amherst Lane resident reported on June 11 that someone had called claiming to be from ComEd, saying that they had a delinquent account and threatening to shut her power off. The resident was scammed into giving the caller two payments of an unspecified amount before realizing it was a ruse.

AGGRAVATED BATTERY
A Jewel employee reported on the afternoon of June 16 that he was sweeping the sidewalk on the east side of the 411 Green Bay Road store when a man knocked the broom out of his hands and punched him in the face. His attacker was described as a 40-year-old black man with a thin build, extensive horizontal facial scarring and dark hair. He was wearing a black t-shirt and low-hanging pants and was last seen leaving the area on a bicycle headed south on Green Bay Road.

BATTERY
A shopper at Walgreens, 811 Green Bay Road, reported that someone grabbed her buttocks around 2:15 p.m. on June 18. The butt-grabber, described as a 5 foot, 6 inch, 130-pound woman in a black shirt, black leggings and blue nitrile gloves then asked the shopper, "You like that?" and, "You want some more?"

STOLEN CAR
A resident in the 200 block of 3rd Street reported on June 18 that someone had stolen their black 2008 Toyota Prius at some point between 9 and 10 a.m. that day after leaving a key in side. A neighbor also reported a car burglary that night.

MISSING PACKAGE
After a resident in the 300 block of Linden Avenue reported that someone had taken a package from their front porch on the evening of June 23, an officer found the missing package in the 400 block of 3rd Street.

THEFTS FROM VEHICLES

  • On June 13, someone stole a catalytic converter from a rented Mitsubishi SUV that was parked in the 200 block of Charles Place.
  • Someone stole a catalytic converter from a Toyota Prius parked in a driveway in the 600 block of LeClaire Avenue between noon June 14 and 9:30 a.m. June 15.
  • Someone stole a catalytic converter from a Honda Pilot parked on the street in front of a home in the 1200 block of Maple Street at some point between June 11 and June 14.
  • Someone stole a catalytic converter from a Honda Odyssey parked in the street in the 1300 block of Gregory Avenue between June 1 and June 2.
  • At some point between May 30 and June 20, someone stole a catalytic converter from a Prius in the 600 block of Leamington Avenue.

BIKE THEFTS

  • Someone stole a black Trek FX-2 hybrid bicycle worth about $800 sometime between midnight and 8 a.m. on June 4 after it was left unlocked on the side of a garage in the 1000 block of Lake Avenue.
  • A 8-year-old's red Marin mountain bike worth about $300 was stolen on June 6 after it was left unlocked and leaning against a tree near the bike racks at Harper School, 1101 Dartmouth St.
  • Someone stole a neo green Specialized bike from the rack at McKenzie School, 649 Prairie Avenue, after it was left there unlocked between June 2 and and June 10.
  • Someone stole a purple Liv bicycle that was left unlocked at Harper School, 1101 Dartmouth St., on June 6, police were told on June 20.

THEFT OF LOST/UNATTENDED ITEM

  • Someone who dropped a wallet on the street in the 1300 block of Elmwood Avenue while unloading a car on June 5 reported that it was missing, and the next day, someone tried to use their credit card in Missouri.
  • A wallet that was left in an unlocked locker at the Michigan Shores Country Club was stolen at some point before 8 a.m., with one of the credit cards inside used shortly after the theft to make a purchase online.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone took an iPad from a BMW M6 that had been left unattended with its top down around 7:15 a.m. on June 7 at the Starbucks, 1515 Sheridan Road. The iPad was later found abandoned in the street at Westerfield and 10th Street and returned to its owner.
  • Someone stole a wallet from inside a car that was left unlocked outside the Chase Bank, 50 Skokie Blvd.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Pharrel D. Williams, 18, of the 5500 block of North Winthrop Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. on June 4 and charged with criminal trespassing to motor vehicle after officers were called to the 200 block of Greenleaf Avenue for a report of a car burglary in progress.

Arthur D. Pike, 31, of the 1800 block of South Allport Street, Chicago, was arrested around 8:45 p.m. on June 10 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and possession of cannabis by a driver following a traffic stop in the 2500 block of Lake Avenue.

Robert E. Wojcik, 55, of the 1700 block of Fielding Drive, Glenview, was arrested around 11 p.m. on June 10 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater following a traffic stop near the intersection of Lake Avenue and Canterbury Lane.

Kristen S. Marx, 46, of the 1100 block of Hamtondale Avenue, Winnetka, was arrested June 12 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs after officers were called to the parking lot of Edens Plaza, 3200 Lake Ave., for a report of a driver snorting an unknown substance. Officers found a white powdery substance and issued Marx a citation for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol.

Christopher N. Morales, 48, and Blake M. Saavedra, 33, were arrested around 11:30 a.m. on June 16 at the Walgreens, 3232 Lake Ave., and charged with retail theft after police got a call that two men had just stolen over-the-counter medications. Officers recovered nearly $1,360 worth of merchandise and prosecutors approved felony charges for both men, who were listed as homeless.

Juan D. Alegria, 40, of the 900 block of Green Bay Road, was arrested around 1 a.m. on June 23 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop near Green Bay Road and Elmwood Avenue. He was also issued citations for no proof of insurance, improper turn and suspended registration.
