NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments and court records as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
WILMETTE
INCIDENTS
VANDALISM
Staff at the CTA station, 349 Linden Ave., reported around 4 a.m. on May 12 that someone had spray-painted a train with red, black, green, white and blue bubble-style lettering.
THEFT
Someone stole an unattended cell phone that was left near the beach at Gillson Park at some point on or before May 14.

FRAUD
A Laramie Avenue resident reported on May 14 that someone had requested a debit card replacement for their bank account. The resident was told the card was delivered, but she never received it and later learned that someone had used it at an ATM somewhere.
BIKE THEFT
Someone stole a gray Aventon e-bike that had been locked to the racks at the Linden CTA station at some point between 8 and 10 p.m. on May 16.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Bertha Fernando, 44, of the 2100 block of Kenilworth Avenue, Wilmette, was arrested around 11:45 p.m. on May 14 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater following a traffic stop near the intersection of Hunter and Iroquois roads. She produced a sample indicating her breath alcohol concentration was 0.144, or nearly twice the legal limit for alcohol intoxication. Officers also issued her a citation for improper lane usage.
Jeremy Herring, 41, of the 14500 block of West Washington Street, Woodstock, was arrested around May 17 and charged with retail theft after an officer witnessed him steal unspecified items from the store. He was stopped right outside the store and taken into custody.
Serafin Mena, 74, of the 3400 block of North Troy Street, Chicago, was arrested following a traffic stop around 3:30 a.m. on May 19 in the 200 block of Ridge Road. Officers reported that Mena showed signs of being intoxicated and declined to provide a breath sample prior to be arrested and charged with driving under the influence. Officers also issued her citations for improper lane usage, improper turn signal and driving an uninsured motor vehicle.

INCIDENTS
IDENTITY THEFT
A Raleigh Road resident reported on May 13 that someone used their identity to open a fraudulent T-Mobile account.
GLENCOE
INCIDENTS
BIKE THEFT
Someone stole a bicycle worth $480 from an unlocked garage in the 300 block of Keystone Court at some point prior to 5:30 p.m. on May 19.
STOLEN LAWNMOWER
A resident in the 100 block of Euclid Avenue reported around noon on May 20 that someone had stolen their Husqvarna push lawnmower worth about $400 from the front yard of their house.
HOME BURGLARY
Someone smashed a glass window and got into a home in the 100 block of Timber Lane at some point prior to 9:15 p.m. on May 20. It was not known what was stolen at the time of the report.
VANDALISM
Around 4:30 p.m. on May 23, officers learned that the back of a speed limit sign at the intersection of Dundee and Pebblewood roads had been defaced in some way.
NORTHFIELD
INCIDENTS
HOME BURGLARY
Someone broke into a home in the 100 block of Frontage Road by forcing open the front door between 2:30 and 5 p.m. on May 20, stealing cash and jewelry from inside. The total value of the stolen items was not known at the time of the report.
SHOPLIFTING
Around 10:25 a.m. on May 22, an unidentified woman walked into the Mariano's, 1822 Willow Road and stole several bottles and cans of liquor, worth about $168, before running out of the store headed south on Happ Road — while drinking from one of the stolen bottles.
VANDALISM
Around 11:30 a.m. on May 22, officers got a report that the stop sign at Sunset Road and Latrobe Avenue was missing. Earlier that same day, police investigated a similar incident where a stop sign that had been taken from the intersection of Harding Road and Lagoon Drive was later found dumped in a nearby wooded area.
RESIDENT DISPUTE
Police were called back to the intersection of Sunset Road an Latrobe Avenue around 1:15 p.m. for a dispute between two residents regarding private street signage. Officers asked the village's building department to follow-up regarding the signage in question.
THEFT
A resident of the 1600 block of Mount Pleasant Street reported at 2:30 p.m. on May 22 that someone had stolen a sign from their front yard.

WINNETKA
INCIDENTS
SIGN THEFT
A village employee discovered on May 16 that someone had stolen the Vine Street sign from the corner of Vine Street and Laurel Avenue some times after about noon on May 12 for a loss of more than $361.
STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a car that had been left in the 100 block of Fuller Lane between 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on May 16. The car was later found abandoned in Kenilworth, and the amount of loss was now known at the time of the report.
PACKAGE THEFT
A resident in the 1100 block of Merrill Street reported on May 20 that someone had stolen $1,125 worth of gift cards from a package at the front of their home between 3 a.m. and noon on May 18.
COMMERCIAL BURGLARY
An employee of the Winnetka Golf Club, 1300 Oak St., reported that someone had gotten into a locked building and stole $1,250 worth of golf clubs between 8 p.m. May 18 and 7 a.m. May 19.
THEFT
Someone stole bins of household items that had been left on the front lawn of a home in the 1300 block of Scott Avenue between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. on May 20.
IDENTITY THEFTS
- An Asbury Avenue resident reported on May 17 that someone had used their identity to open multiple accounts with TD Ameritrade between Oct. 26, 2021, and May 17.
- Someone used the identity of a Westmoor Terrace resident to apply for an unauthorized line of credit with WebBank Dell Financial Services.
