1920s Winnetka Home Features Unique, Midcentury Modern Aesthetic Décor
Lexington, Kentucky-based Certified Interior Decorator Liz Toombs & her Firm PDR Interiors led the project.
From Thomas Smith:
Liz Toombs, a highly acclaimed Certified Interior Decorator, as well as president and owner of the firm PDR Interiors recently completed an extensive home decor project at 1417 Tower Road in Winnetka. Toombs and her colleagues handled all selections while furnishing the living room, dining room, kitchen and primary bedroom. The home was built in 1924.
All furnishings - as well as the lighting - have a mid-century modern aesthetic. They used stain-repellant and easily cleaned fabrics to achieve the desired look while still keeping the house family-friendly. The family chose washable area rugs along with some rugs made from commercial carpet squares for durability.

They selected navy as an accent color for the living room and den built-ins, and accent walls in the kitchen bar and primary bedroom. There is a fun graphic print black and white wallpaper in the powder bathroom. Then they incorporated warm leather and wood tones in the furniture with gold accents in both the furniture and lighting. The homeowners like clean lines for their furniture and fabric patterns with minimal clutter. The aforementioned elements, along with the use of saturated colors such as navy, are all in line with the current trends for furniture styles.
Here is a brief overview of PDR’s work on the home:

“We absolutely love the house and the way things turned out,” said Jack Dawson, the new homeowner. “Working with Liz and her outstanding team at PDR Interiors could not have gone more smoothly as I highly trust and value their opinion. I was so fortunate to have gotten to know Liz professionally, so it was an easy decision to have her work on our house.”
Dawson added that one of the most appealing things about moving from the city to Winnetka was having a larger space to support his growing family as well as access to a yard. Additionally, his brother-in-law and his family live next door, so having immediate family in such close proximity is another aspect of the move they are enjoying immensely.
The Dawsons – a young family of four - previously lived in Chicago. Their family will be adding a new member in April with arrival of their first boy.
