NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — With Halloween weekend just around the corner, Winnetka and Glencoe residents who need to head to the store for some candy or who have little ones headed out to trick-or-treat are finalizing their preparations.

For those who choose to participate in the holiday on Tuesday, Oct. 31, official trick-or-treat hours run from 3 to 7 p.m. in Winnetka and 4 to 8 p.m. in Glencoe.

Residents welcoming trick-or-treaters during that time should turn on exterior lights, while those that do not wish to take part are encouraged to turn their porch lights off or put up signs notifying visitors that they are not participating in trick-or treat.

In the days leading up to All Hallow's Eve, here are some other community events scheduled to be held in Winnetka.

Boo Bash
Friday, 6 to 7:30 p.m., Willow Park, 401 Wagner Road
The Northfield Park District is hosting a free all-ages event aimed at children from 3 to 8. The bash is set to feature games, crafts, a balloonist and train rides around Willow Park. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and attendees are invited to come in costume and bring a trick-or-treat bag.

Boo Bash
Saturday, 5 p.m., Takiff Center, 999 Green Bay Road
The Takiff Center is set to become an "eerie playground" in this spook-tacular event for children aged 2-8. Everyone who attends must register and pay $10 for residents and $12 for non-residents.

Mysteries and Mayhem on the North Shore
Monday, 1 to 2:30 p.m., 61 Northfield Road, Northfield
In this hybrid event, the curator of the Winnetka Historical Society will present stories of mysteries and mayhem from the history of the North Shore, including illegal bootleg operations during prohibition and a series of murders in the late 1800s that gave Winnetka the name “Murder Town. Registration is $14 for members and $19 for non-members.

Halloween Hello

Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Village Hall and Downtown Glencoe

The annual Halloween event is sponsored by the Winnetka-Northfield-Glencoe Chamber of Commerce. The Glencoe Historical Society is putting on a "Ghosts in the Garden" experitence at 377 Park Ave., and Village Hall and the public safety bay will feature a family-friendly spooky experience and a special treat.

Winnetka village officials also shared the following Halloween safety advice:

Please remind Trick-or-Treaters in your home to stay on sidewalks and within marked crosswalks, and to remain aware of traffic. Running across streets or out from between vehicles can create a dangerous situation, and our priority is that everyone safely enjoys their holiday.
