NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Northfield and Winnetka police departments and court records as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
GLENCOE
INCIDENTS
STOLEN CAR
Staff at Mini of Glencoe, 2100 Frontage Road, reported on Dec. 4 that a customer had failed to return a 2024 Mini Cooper they had been loaned in an agreement, and the car was entered into law enforcement databases as stolen.
ROAD RAGE
A driver called police on Dec. 7 to report that a bicyclist they had honked at near Sheridan Road and Wentworth Avenue had flipped them off and yelled in response.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE
Police found a stolen rear license plate attached to a suspect vehicle in the 700 block of Longwood Avenue on Dec. 12.
CREDIT CARD FRAUD
A representative of a business in the 100 block of Franklin Road reported on Dec. 16 that they had arranged for a business transportation service and later discovered 114 unauthorized charges totaling more than $70,600.

CHECK FRAUD
A Woodlawn Avenue resident reported that they had dropped off nine checks in the U.S. Postal Service box on village court. Seven of those checks were never received and one that had been written in the amount of $250 was altered to $4,500.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
An employee of Glencoe Golf Club, 621 Westley Road, reported on Dec. 22 that someone had driven onto the putting green and caused $2,000 in damage.
EGGING
A resident in the 500 block of Madison Avenue reported that someone had thrown eggs at their home on Jan. 21.
IDENTITY THEFTS
- A Hogarth Lane resident reported on Dec. 26 that they had received a letter from American Express notifying them that someone had used their identity to apply for a credit card.
- A Linden Avenue resident reported on Jan. 10 that someone had used their identity to try to open up an American Express card.
THEFTS
- A resident in the 600 block of Washington Place reported on Jan. 5 that someone had stolen $20,000 worth of jewelry after an unknown person had installed Wi-Fi boosters in their home.
- Someone stole a stop sign and a parking sign from the intersection of Hazel and Longwood avenues.
SCAMS
- A Green Bay Road resident reported on Nov. 29 that a scammer had called claiming to be a representative of Paypal, gotten their credit card information and racked up a $2,000 loss.
- A Green Bay Road resident reported on Dec. 8 that someone had called them claiming to be their granddaughter and requested $20,000 in bail money. The resident hung up on the caller and contacted police.
- A company was paid $3,500 for gutter work in the 900 block of Bluff Street on Dec. 21 but it never performed any services.
- A Fairfield Road resident reported on Dec. 21 that they got a call from a scammer claiming to be a representative of Chase Bank. The scammer told the resident there was a $700 fraudulent charge and got the resident to provide personal identifying information to gain access to the account.
- A Hohlfelder Road resident reported on Jan. 18 that they called a number that popped up on their screen but became suspicious and hung up before giving over any identifying information.
- An employee of Transitions New Trier, 640 Vernon Ave., reported that they were scammed out of $400 after buying Amazon gift cards in response to an email that they mistakenly believed had come from the school principal.
ARRESTS
Ange Iradukunda, 27, of the 3500 block of West North Avenue, Chicago, was arrested on Dec. 8 and charged with burglary to a place of worship in connection with a November 2023 incident at Glencoe Union Church, 263 Park Ave.
Kevyon King, 27, of the 1200 block of Grand Avenue in Racine, Wisconsin, was arrested on Jan. 1 following a traffic stop. He was initially charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a stolen title, driving while license suspended and unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver.
An 18-year-old Northbrook man was arrested around Tower and Frontage roads on Jan. 2 and charged with the misdemeanor offenses of fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, speeding more than 35 above the limit and issued citations for running a red light and not having license plates.
Robert Baxter, 50, of the 900 block of Chatfield Drive, Winnetka, was arrested on Jan. 6 on a warrant issued by Lake County authorities in connection with a charge of being a child sex offender in a school zone in Highland Park on Dec. 15. Glencoe public safety officers gave Baxter a warning for driving with expired plates before dropping him off at Lake County Jail in Waukegan. Winnetka-Glencoe Patch has requested further information about the incident from Highland Park police.
Arie Sorin, 52, of the 6400 block of North Sheridan Road, Chicago, was arrested on Jan. 7 for a warrant issued by Cook County authorities following a traffic stop near the intersection of Green Bay Road and Harbor Street. Sorin was ticketed for speeding and turned over to Evanston police, who arrested him on an aggravated assault charge.
Michael Barnett, 46, of the 1300 block of Mario Lane in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, was arrested on Jan. 10 at the AutoHaus, 1600 Frontage Road, on an in-state warrant issued by Lake County authorities in connection with a DUI charge dating back to January 2020.
Jan Parchewski, 47, of the 2800 block of Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago, was arrested on Jan. 10 on an out-of-state arrest warrant and also charged with possession of a fraudulent identity card. He was detained ahead of transportation to a pretrial detention hearing.
Christian Tapia, 38, of Los Angeles, California, Romai Arena Pogge, 33, of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Joe Acevedo-Donaire, 19, of Chile, were all arrested after a traffic stop on a car driven by Tapia near the intersection of Tower and Hibbard roads. Police initially cited Tapia for unlawful possession of fraudulent identification, unlawful possession of cannabis, obstructing identification, driving without every having a license and improper stopping. Pogge and Donaire were both charged with possession of fraudulent identification and obstructing identification. At their scheduled court date Tuesday, none of them showed up and police testified they had been apprehended by authorities in California. An officer also explained they had been wanted by authorities in several other states for various burglary related charges.
Lin DeHong, 67, of the 1800 block of Country Drive, Grayslake, was arrested on Jan. 15 near the intersection of Green Bay and Lake Cook roads and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle following a license plate reader alert from Lincolnshire.
Alexandru Croiter, 18, of the 3700 block of West Pratt Avenue, Lincolnwood, was arrested and charged with vehicular hijacking following an unarmed carjacking in Glencoe. Read more...

INCIDENTS
STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a Volvo from the 1200 block of Cherry Street between 3:30 p.m. Jan. 21 and 7 a.m. on Jan. 22. The car was later found in Chicago with an unknown amount of damage.
SIGN THEFTS
Someone stole two signs from the 800 block of Private Road on or before Dec. 31 for an unknown loss.
HOME BURGLARIES
- Someone broke into a locked home in the 100 block of De Windt Road and stole some unidentified items between 5 p.m. Nov. 29 and 11 a.m. Nov. 30.
- A resident in the 100 block of DeWindt Road reported that someone had stolen an unspecified amount of watches from them in excess of thousands of dollars between Nov. 1, 2021, and Dec. 18, 2023.
- Someone damaged a door trying to get into a home in the 1200 block of Whitebridge Hill Road prior to 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 18, causing $1,500 in damage.
- Someone broke into a home in the 200 block of Sheridan Road after damaging a window and stole an unknown amount of items at some point prior to 7 p.m. Dec. 20.
IDENTITY THEFT
- Someone used the identity of a Tower Road resident to apply for a Discover student loan and Capital One credit cards on or before Nov. 22.
- An Asbury Avenue resident reported that someone used their identity to open up an American Express card between Dec. 1 and Dec. 9.
- A Green Bay Road resident reported that someone made $367 worth of unauthorized purchases using their Costco credit card between Dec. 23 and Dec. 25.
- A Pelham Road resident reported on Jan. 4 that someone had used their identity to issue multiple checks were unspecified thousands of dollars from their checking account.
- A Sheridan Road resident reported on Jan. 5 that someone had used their identity to make a $342 unauthorized purchase.
- A Rosewood Avenue resident reported that someone had used their identity to apply for multiple credit cards between Dec. 29 and Jan. 15.
- A Church Road resident reported on Jan. 25 that someone had used their identity earlier in the month to make transactions on their Chase Bank account and attempt to open up a T-Mobil account.
CHECK FRAUD
- A Locust Road resident reported on Jan. 21 that someone had altered a check that they had mailed for an unspecified loss in excess of several thousand dollars.
- An Oak Street resident reported that someone had altered a check in the mail between Jan. 12 and Jan. 18 and cashed it for an unspecified loss in excess of several thousand dollars.
- A Hill Road resident reported that someone had altered checks from their personal checking account between Jan. 22 and Jan. 24 for an unknown loss.
- A Fairview Avenue resident reported on Jan. 25 that someone had altered a check in the mail between Jan. 15 and Jan. 19 and cashed it for a $1,350 loss.
VANDALISM
- Someone spray painted a cement pillar near the intersection of Pine Street and Green Bay Road at some point prior to Dec. 2, causing $200 in damage.
- At some point prior to Dec. 7, someone caused $300 in damage to a cement post in the 400 block of Green Bay Trail.
- Someone damaged a "No Outlet/Private Residents Only" sign at Ravine and Sheridan roads at some point prior to Dec. 26, for a loss of $250.
- On Jan. 5, a village employee reported that someone had spray painted a tunnel wall at 299 Green Bay Road around 11:15 p.m. on Dec. 10, causing nearly $332 in damage.
SCAMS
- A Chatfield Road resident reported that they made a $600 purchase on a fraudulent website with the intention of apply for global entry.
- A Grove Street resident reported that someone had attempted to scam them into sending money by threatening to send compromising photos to family members. There was no loss reported.
ARRESTS
Jesus Atempa, 30, of the 7600 block of North Bosworth Avenue, Chicago, was arrested on Nov. 28 at the Skokie Courthouse and charged with official misconduct, forgery, theft of more than $500 and theft of lost or mislaid property.
Samantha Zingale Byrnes, 50, of the 1500 block of Tower Road, Winnetka, was arrested around 11:15 a.m. on Dec. 10 in the 900 block of Green Bay Road and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
Patrick A. Charleston, 59, of the 7700 block of South Wood Street, Chicago, was arrested around 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 31 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI-alcohol with a BAC of 0.08 or greater and endangering the health of a child following a traffic stop in the 1300 block of Sheridan Road. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage, driving with expired plates and failure to properly secure a child.
NORTHFIELD
INCIDENTS
BUSINESS BAN
Staff of Wags on Willow, 300 S. Happ Road, reported on Dec. 23 that a woman had caused a disturbance after being told she would not receive service for free. The woman reportedly threatened to leave poor reviews and burn down the business. She left before police arrived. Officers spoke with staff and conveyed a no-trespass warning from staff, leaving a voicemail notifying the woman she was banned from the business.
CHECK FRAUD
A Sunset Ridge Road resident reported on Dec. 30 that someone had altered a check in the mail that had been sent from the Northfield Post Office, 1787 Orchard Lane, in March 2023.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
An employee of Lutheran Church of Ascension, 460 Sunset Ridge Road, reported on Jan. 4 that a dumpster truck had driven over their grass while cutting through their private parking lot shortly before 9 a.m. that morning.
SHOPLIFTING
- Staff at the Shell station at 1855 Willow Road reported around 12:15 a.m. on Dec. 7 that two male shoplifters had just taken about $25 worth of candy.
- Someone stole about $20 worth of motor oil from the Shell station at 469 Sunset Ridge Road around 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 17.
- Staff at the Walgreens, 1825 Willow Road, reported that someone had just stolen merchandise. Police found the thief and recovered the stolen merchandise, but store managed did not want to press charges and just wanted the store's property returned.
SUSPICIOUS INCIDENTS
- On Dec. 9, a resident in the 200 block of Frontage Road told police he suspected someone had walked into his open garage and tampered with his property about an hour earlier.
- A resident in the 1600 block of Winnetka Road called police on Dec. 9 to report someone may have unlawfully entered his shed earlier in the day.
- Management at Fields BMW, 700 W. Frontage Road, reported on Dec. 20 that a suspicious car that had been driving around the lot before opening hours had backed into another parked vehicle before leaving.
- On Jan. 22, a Wilmette resident reported that someone had damaged the handle of their car door earlier that morning while parked at the Mariano's parking lot at 1822 Willow Road.
- A Meadowbrook Drive resident reported on Jan. 26 that they had gotten a call from a scammer who claimed to be their grandson.
IDENTITY THEFTS
- A Clover Lane resident reported that someone had used their identity to make several unauthorized withdrawals before eventually pulling $1,500 out of a bank in the northwest suburbs.
- A Riverside Rive resident reported on Dec. 28 that they had gotten an envelope in the mail containing his personal information but someone else's photograph.
- A Landmark Road resident reported on Jan. 10 that someone had made two fraudulent transactions at a local bank on Jan. 6 and stolen $3,800 form his personal bank account.
VANDALISM
- Staff at New Trier High School's west campus, 7 S. Happ Road, reported some graffiti had been painted on a bicycle path along the woods.
- Someone egged a house in the 200 block of Latrobe Avenue on the night of Jan. 5 or morning of Jan. 6.
- A Wilmette resident reported on Jan. 11 that someone had thrown an egg from inside another car while he was driving east at Winnetka and Wagner roads.
ARRESTS
Christian C. Patterson, 23, of the 600 block of Earl Drive, Northfield, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 17 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI-alcohol with a BAC of 0.08 or greater and ticketed for failure to reduce sped to avoid a crash after he crashed into a brick mailbox and then a tree before his car burst into flames in the front yard of a home in the 500 block of Edens Lane.
