NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Northfield and Winnetka police departments and court records as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

  • A resident reported on Dec. 20 that a scammer used their personal identifying information to purchase a vehicle after their wallet had been stolen several months ago. The incident occurred at CarMax Glencoe, 2000 Frontage Road, and remains under investigation.
  • An Edgebrook Lane resident reported on Dec. 27 that someone had stolen $1,400 worth of American Airlines frequent flyer miles from them. The case is under investigation.
  • A Washington Avenue resident reported on Dec. 27 that a scammer used their identity in an unsuccessful attempt to take out a loan of more than $10,100 from OneMain Financial Group.
  • An Aspen Lane resident reported on Jan. 1 that a scammer made an unauthorized charge of $10,200 on their Bank of America account. The resident had received a fraudulent letter appearing to be from the bank, called the provided number and shared personal identifying information before realizing it was a scam.

ARRESTS

Alejandro Cano-Valencia, 28, of the 200 block of Capri Terrace, Wheeling, was arrested around Dec. 29 near Vernon Avenue and Park Avenue. He was charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol while his license was suspended, driving under the influence and disobeying a stop sign.

Linda Moran, 54, of the 2400 block of Carmen Court, Lindenhurst, was arrested around Dec. 31 in the 300 block of Adams Avenue. She was charged with domestic battery.

WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFTS/SCAMS

  • A Green Bay Road resident reported on Dec. 16 that someone had used their identity to unsuccessfully attempt to open multiple credit accounts on Nov. 26.
  • A Provident Avenue resident reported on Dec. 16 that someone purporting to be the their boss, requested the resident deposit a check into an unknown account on Dec. 12. The amount of the loss is unknown at this time.
  • An Asbury Avenue resident reported on Dec. 20 that someone had used their identity to open up an AT&T account on Dec. 10 for a loss of $113.
  • A Prospect Avenue resident reported that someone used their identity to make a series of unauthorized credit card transactions on Dec. 30 or Dec. 31 for a loss of more than $4,200.

THEFT

Someone stole an Apple Watch valued at $330 from a person at 850 Green Bay Road between 9 and 10:44 a.m. on Dec. 14, police were told on the 17th.

SHOPLIFTING

An employee at Walgreens at 925 Green Bay Road reported on Dec. 18 that someone had stolen unspecified merchandise from the store prior to 9 p.m. that day. The amount of the loss was unknown at the time of the report.

SIGN THEFT

  • Someone stole a stop sign from the parkway near the intersection of Cherry and Locust streets prior to about 11 a.m. on Dec. 29 for a loss of $229.
  • Someone stole signs from the front yard of a home in the 400 block of Sunset Road at some point between Dec. 29 and Jan. 4, police were told.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • A resident in the 500 block of Elm Street reported on Dec. 30 that someone got into their unlocked Audi and Toyota SUVs parked in the driveway, but nothing appeared to have been stolen.
  • A resident in the 100 block of Fuller Lane reported on Jan. 4 that someone had gotten into an unsecured Toyota parked in the driveway between 6 p.m. on Dec. 22 and 2 p.m. on Dec. 31, stealing a coin purse and cash for a $10 loss.

ARRESTS

A 29-year-old Wilmette man was arrested around 10:15 p.m. on Dec. 16 on an outstanding arrest warrant after police were called to the 500 block of Chestnut Street for a report of a dispute.

A 41-year-old Elmwood Park man was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license and ticketed for a crash at Hibbard and Tower roads around 3 p.m. on Dec. 17.

A 77-year-old Chicago woman was arrested on charges of driving with a suspended license and without insurance after a crash near the intersection of Winnetka Avenue and Green Bay Road around 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 18.

Samuel McLaughlin, 38, of the 600 block of Hinman Avenue, Evanston, was arrested on Jan. 2 and charged with criminal trespass to property. The arrest followed a report that someone who had been previously cited for trespassing on the premises of the Winnetka Community House, 620 Lincoln Ave.


NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

CAR BURGLARS
A resident reported suspicious activity in the 100 block of Riverside Drive involving their parked vehicle and others in the neighborhood around 1 a.m. on Dec. 16. Officers found several unlocked cars had been burglarized. Officers later received a report of someone pulling on vehicle door handles on the 200 block of Graemere Street. Nothing was reported stolen.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE
Officers were called to the Northfield Community Center, 401 Wagner Road, around 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 16 after a Park District employee reported the theft of a catalytic converter from a vehicle. The theft occurred within the past few days.

PACKAGE THEFT
A resident reported that a delivery driver stole a package from their front porch on the 1600 block of Colonial Lane after delivering another package earlier that day around 5:47 p.m. on Dec. 17.

STOLEN CAR
Police found an unoccupied car parked with its engine running in the 500 block of West Frontage Road around 2:45 a.m. on Dec. 24. Officers determined it had been stolen from a nearby town.

FRAUD
A resident in the 300 block of West Frontage Road reported several fraudulent transactions on different online accounts over the course of the month around 8:23 p.m. on Dec. 31.

CAR BURGLARY
A resident reported a vehicle burglary on Jan. 2 at 8:13 p.m. on the 100 block of West Frontage Road. A window was smashed and compartments were opened, but nothing was stolen.

ARRESTS

Mariah O’Brien, 48, of the 1700 block of Happ Road, Northbrook, was arrested around 7 p.m. on Dec. 26 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. She was also cited for improper lane usage and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle after police were called to Willow Road and Wagner Road and found a motorist had driven off the roadway and stopped on a resident's front lawn.
