Fraudster Claiming To Be Korean Embassy Rep Steals $5K: Winnetka Crime Blotter

WINNETKA, IL — The following is the most recent crime blotter from the Winnetka Police Department.

IDENTITY THEFT

  • Fraud - Oct. 14 at 9:44 a.m.
    • A resident reported to police that sometime between Oct. 5 and Oct. 14 an unknown person filed a false unemployment claim using the resident's information. The amount of loss estimated from the incident is $5,000.
  • Fraud - Oct. 15 at 10:34 a.m
    • A resident reported to police that sometime between Sept. 7 and Sept. 23 an unknown person filed a false unemployment claim using the resident's information. The amount of loss estimated from the incident is $605.

  • Fraud - Oct. 14 at 3:19 p.m.
    • According to the police department, a resident reported that a person claiming to be a Korean Embassy representative instructed them to transfer $5,000 fraudulently between Sept. 19 and Oct. 9. The incident is under investigation and no further information was available.
