WINNETKA, IL — The priciest Christmas movie home is the iconic “Home Alone” house in Winnetka, according to a recent ranking.

The study used data from the Zillow Home Value Index to compare average home prices in neighborhoods featured in some of the most popular Christmas movies. It was conducted by Cinch Home Services.

On Lincoln Avenue in Winnetka, where the McCallister family lives in the 1990 film, a house costs an average of $1.56 million, according to the study.

“The McCallister house is a spacious and iconic residence that often sparks curiosity due to its impressive size,” a news release about the ranking said. “At approximately 4,250 square feet, it is a large Georgian-style home with three floors, a spacious attic, five bedrooms, and four bathrooms.”

As of this spring, the house had a much higher value than the average local home. It was listed for $5.25 million in May by sellers who had expanded the residence to over 9,100 square feet. They accepted an offer a week later.

“Christmas movies often aim to create a warm, inviting atmosphere, and luxurious homes with grand fireplaces, large windows, and beautifully decorated rooms help set this tone,” a Cinch Home Services spokesperson said in the news release. “In some cases, houses from famous Christmas films, like ‘Home Alone’ or ‘A Christmas Story,’ have become tourist attractions.”

Second in the ranking was Nakatomi Plaza from “Die Hard.” The 34-story skyscraper is actually called Fox Plaza and is located in Century City, Los Angeles, where a space in the structure would average $1.4 million.

High-end New York City apartments featured in “Elf,” “Scrooged” and “Serendipity” tied for third with an average value of $1.25 million.
