Honey Butter Fried Chicken Finds 'Family-Friendly' Setting In Glencoe
The popular Chicago comfort food emporium opened on Tuesday in the historic Poppy's Local space, offering menu favorites to a new audience.

GLENCOE, IL — A Chicago fried chicken staple has found a new home in a familiar spot to Glencoe residents, delivering another quality culinary option to local diners.
Honey Butter Fried Chicken, which has, until now been centered in Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood, opened its second brick-and-mortar space on Tuesday in downtown Glencoe. The new location, which is set in the former Poppy’s Social space at 688 Vernon Ave., brings a host of comfort food specialties to Glencoe, headlined by its popular fried chicken and honey butter that has become a fan favorite in Chicago.
In addition, the restaurant will feature non-fried varieties, including a char-broiled chicken and another non-fried option that can be added to salads and sandwiches. In addition, the restaurant will feature a collection of pies from Bang Bang Pie and Biscuits as well as offerings from local breweries including Ravinia Brewing, Half Acre, Maplewood, and Temperance Brewing.

The renovated Poppy’s Social space boasts bright dining rooms as well as a well-thought-out balance of vintage and modern décor, the restaurant’s owners said. The dining area also features a reclaimed barn door from the original historic building, custom wallpaper, and art from local artist and designer Silvia Hildago.
The 4,000-square-foot restaurant will have seating for about 70 guests and features multiple private dining spaces. During warmer months, guests will be able to enjoy an outdoor patio, which enhances the in-person dining experience. The restaurant will also feature delivery and catering services that include all of the Honey Butter Fried Chicken staples that make it a unique dining destination.

In addition to the two restaurant locations, Honey Butter Chicken also has retail space at the United Center.
"We always wanted to open a second location and heavily considered the suburbs, but our search slowed during the pandemic,” owners Josh Kulp and Christine Cikowski said in a statement issued to Patch on Wednesday. “But earlier in 2023, we came upon a unique opportunity with this fantastic historic space in Glencoe, so we jumped at the chance to move forward.
“Our philosophy is rooted in family, both with our team and with the food we serve, so the family-friendly community of Glencoe and the surrounding North Shore seemed like a perfect fit.”
