New Trier Day of Service Celebrates Earth Day 2022

Winnetka, Ill. – In honor of Earth Day, Friday, April 22, New Trier parents, students, community members, and alumni across the nation and beyond will be connecting with fellow Trevians and working together on service projects that will help you go green on Saturday, April 23.

Service projects include partnering with the Shedd Aquarium to clean out buckthorn at the Skokie Lagoons, working with Friends of the Green Bay Trail, removing invasive plants from the Agnes Scott Greenspace in Atlanta, Georgia, donating gently used electronic devices to BinaryHeart and Go Green Northfield to be repaired and up-cycled for students in underserved communities—just to name a few.

Caring for Mother Earth can also mean caring for our fellow human beings. You can help collect food donations at Grand Food Center in Winnetka for the New Trier Township Food Pantry, support youth art therapy programs at ZCenter in Skokie and Willow House in Bannockburn, Illinois, and collect monetary donations to support the procurement and delivery of humanitarian relief aid for the people of Ukraine.

The New Trier Educational Foundation launched the Day of Service in 2021 to engage New Trier families and alumni in addressing the needs of the community and to build connections across the globe. It reflects how Trevians live the school motto, “to commit minds to inquiry, hearts to compassion, and lives to the service of humanity,” by continuing the tradition of giving back.
