New Trier High School Ranked As No. 3 Public School In Chicago Suburbs
U.S. News & World Report ranked NTHS as the 10th best public high school in Illinois and 348th nationwide.

WINNETKA, IL — New Trier High School ranked as the 10th best public high school in the state and No. 3 in the Chicago suburbs, according to analysis released this week by U.S. News and World Report.
The news outlet compiled data on 673 schools in Illinois and 17,655 schools nationally, ranking them on their students' performance on state-mandated standardized tests, their graduation rates and college readiness levels.
According to the list, New Trier ranks No. 348 among all public high schools in the United States.

In Illinois, broken down by individual ranking factors, NTHS was 8th for proficiency on state assessments, 18th in college readiness, 19th for the breadth of its college curriculum, 24th in performance on state assessments and 26th for its graduation rate.
The top five public high schools in the state are all selective-enrollment Chicago Public Schools. In the suburbs, the only schools ranked higher than New Trier this year were Adlai Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire and Vernon Hills High School.

U.S. News posted scorecards showing data used to calculate New Trier's 2024 ranking:
- 82 percent of NTHS students are proficient in science
- 71 percent are proficient in reading
- 70 percent are proficient in math
- 55 percent passed at least one Advanced Placement exam
- The student-teacher ratio is 11:1
In the 2024 Best High Schools list, Illinois ranks 24th among U.S. states and the District of Columbia.
Among its 673 ranked schools, 37 are in the top 5 percent nationally and 159 were in the top 25 percent. State-by-state performance is based solely on which states have the largest proportion of schools in the top 25 percent.
