Northfield Police Offer Tips to Avoid Car Burglaries

All vehicle burglaries generally have one thing in common: something valuable left in the car.

The following is from the Village of Northfield:

The Northfield Police Department would like to remind its residents about protecting themselves from property crimes such as vehicle burglaries.

All vehicle burglaries generally have one thing in common: something valuable left in the car. Many vehicle burglaries are “crimes of opportunity”; they could have been avoided had simple preventative steps been taken.

Residents can help protect their property in vehicles by taking the following steps:

  1. Keep all valuables out of view.
  2. Park in well-lit areas.
  3. Utilize an alarm system.
  4. Always lock your doors.

Most importantly, any suspicious activity/persons/vehicles should be immediately reported to the Northfield Police Department by calling 911. Do not take suspicious sounds or people for granted. If possible, write down the description of the person and/or vehicle and license plate number.

If you discover that you have been a victim of a Burglary from Motor Vehicle... Do not touch anything on your car, as it may disturb any evidence, and immediately call the police.
