NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Northfield and Winnetka police departments and court records as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
GLENCOE
INCIDENTS
FIREWORKS CITATION
A Public Safety Officer cited an 18-year-old Northbrook man on June 7 for possession of fireworks and "offensive noises past 150 feet" following a late night June 3 fireworks complaint at Lake Front Park.
DAMAGE TO STATE-SUPPORTED PROPERTY
An officer discovered a damaged window at the Glencoe beach house, at 55 Hazel Ave., during a patrol on July 18. The building was secured and police notified Glencoe Park District staff.

SCAM
A Skokie Ridge Drive Resident reported losing $500 after being scammed into buying gift cards after trying to find out how to transfer concert tickets through Ticketmaster.
CAR BURGLARIES

- A staff member at Skokie Country Club, 500 Washington Ave., spotted an unidentified person rummaging through the passenger compartment of a silver Range Rover on June 8. Nothing was reported stolen and no damage was noted.
- Someone burglarized an unlocked Acura parked in the driveway at the 400 block of Jefferson Avenue on June 23. Nothing was reported stolen.
- Officers notified a resident that their unlocked a Chevrolet and Lexus left had been gone through in the 300 block of Adams Avenue on June 23. Nothing was reported stolen.
SHOPLIFTING
- Someone stole about $95 worth of tequila from the Binny’s Beverage Depot at 85 Green Bay Road on or before June 17.
- A employee of Grand Foods, 341 Hazel Ave., reported that a man had stolen two Monaco cocktails and drank them in the bathroom on June 22. The man paid for the drinks and was given a no trespass order.
THEFTS
- A resident reported that their $40 bike seat, as well as the one next to theirs on the bike rack at Glencoe Metra, 724 Old Green Bay Road, was stolen on June 20.
- Someone stole a Louis Vuitton purse and wallet valued at $5,000 while attending a June 29 rehearsal dinner at Lake Shore Country Club, 1255 Sheridan Road. The victim's phone, credit cards and ID were later found on the property.
IDENTITY THEFTS
- A Jackson Avenue resident reported they got an email from Verizon on June 5 about an $8,000 balance on an account they never opened.
- On July 1, a Euclid Avenue resident reported irregular activity on their Charles Schwab checking account involving a check for $4,620 that they did not authorize.
ARRESTS
Miguel Unzueta, 27, of the 3500 block of West Hirsch Street, Chicago, was arrested on June 11 following an investigation and charged with manufacturing child pornography and aggravated criminal sexual abuse in connection with a 2022 incident with a girl near the Skokie lagoons. He has been ordered detained while awaiting trial.
Butch Turtle Miller, 19, Steven Montes, 20, Dominick Wasso, 20, and Spanky Miller, 18, all of Chicago, were arrested on June 20 and charged with residential burglary in connection with an April 24 report of a home burglary in the 800 block of Oak Drive.

Samuel Martinez, 63, of the 2800 block of West 21st Street, Chicago, was arrested on June 28 following an investigation into the theft of a bicycle seat and basket at Metra, 724 Old Green Bay Road.
WINNETKA
INCIDENTS
AGGRAVATED BATTERY
A cyclist in the 500 block of Sheridan Road around 7:45 p.m. on June 3 reported that another cyclist punched them in the back twice as they were swerving to avoid a pothole.
IDENTITY THEFTS
- A Burr Avenue resident reported that someone intercepted and altered a check between Jan. 5 and Jan. 9 for an unspecified loss inn excess of several thousand dollars.
- A Thorntree Lane resident reported that somone used their identity on June 7 to use about $840 worth of American Airlines mileage rewards.
- Someone used the identity of a Locust Street resident to open a credit card account between April 6 and June 17, resulting in a loss of $176.
- Between May 2022 and September 2022, someone reportedly used a Spruce Street resident's identity to open an internet service account and accrue a debt of $272.83.
- Someone used a Birch Street resident's personal identifiers to apply for an auto loan between July 2 and July 8.
- A Linden Street resident's identity was used to open a credit card account around July 8 for a loss of nearly $5,000.
VANDALISM
- Someone threw eggs at a home in the 500 block of Winnetka Avenue between June 3 and June 4, causing an estimated $120 damage to a Ring doorbell camera.
- Someone defaced property in a locked construction site in the 200 block of Sheridan Road between about 8:45 p.m. on June 28 and 11:45 a.m. on June 29, causing an unknown amount of damage.
- Someone struck a Ford SUV with eggs at the intersection of Willow Road and Chestnut Street shortly after 11 p.m. on June 30, causing an unknown amount of damage.
THEFTS
- Someone stole a poster board sign from its frame from the 500 block of Lincoln Avenue between 4 p.m. on June 9 and 8 a.m. on June 10, causing an estimated $650 in damage.
- Someone stole a wallet and cell phone from a vehicle in the 1300 block of Holly Lane between 12:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. on June 15. Several unauthorized charges were later made using the stolen debit and credit cards.
- Someone stole an unlocked electric scooter from a bike rack shortly before 2:45 p.m. on June 17 in the 800 block of Green Bay Road for a loss of about $750.
- Between 8:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on June 24, someone stole a purse containing a passport, driver's license, wallet, credit card and cash from a location in the 600 block of Lincoln Avenue for a loss of $40.
- Someone stole $1,300 in cash from a purse in the 1300 block of Scott Avenue between 10 a.m. and about 5 p.m. on June 25.
- An unlocked bicycle was stolen from a rack in the 800 block of Green Bay Road prior to 5:30 p.m. on June 27 but later found in the 700 block of Elm Street.
- Between May 15 and May 28, someone scammed an Auburn Avenue resident out of an unspecified amount in excess of several thousand dollars following a request that the resident deposit cryptocurrency to participate in a "product review process for compensation."
- Someone stole various pieces of jewelry from a home in the 900 block of Sheridan Road between June 4 and 1:45 p.m. on July 8 for an unspecified loss in excess of several thousand dollars.
CAR BURGLARIES
- Between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on June 20, someone stole credit cards and a soccer ball from a locked Honda SUV in the parking lot at Centennial Park, 225 Sheridan Road. Unauthorized attempts to make purchases with the stolen credit cards were later reported.
- Someone stole a wallet containing credit cards and cash from an unlocked Audi in the 1100 block of Cherry Street between about 5:30 p.m. on June 16 and 7 a.m. on June 17.
- Someone got into unsecured BMW and Volvo SUVs parked in a driveway at the 1100 block of Spruce Street between 3:30 a.m. and 3:45 a.m. on July 10 but nothing appeared to have been stolen.
- Someone got into an unlocked Mercedes-Benz parked in a driveway at the 1100 block of Spruce Street between 3:30 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. on July 10 and stole a garage door opener and owner’s manual for a loss of $95.
- Someone got into an unlocked Audi SUV parked in a driveway in the 1200 block of Ash Street between 8 p.m. on July 9 and 7:30 a.m. on July 10, but nothing appeared to have been stolen.
- Someone got into unlocked Audi and Acura parked in a driveway in the 1500 block of Tower Road between 10:30 p.m. on July 9 and 5:30 p.m. on July 11, but nothing appeared to have been stolen.
- Someone got into an unlocked Subaru parked in a driveway in the 1500 block of Tower Road between 12:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. on July 11, but nothing appeared to have been stolen.
STOLEN CARS
- Someone stole an unlocked BMW SUV from the driveway of a home in the 1100 block of Whitebridge Hill Road shortly after 5:30 a.m. on June 12.
- Someone stole an unlocked Chrysler minivan from a driveway in the 100 block of Church Road around 6 a.m. on June 25.
- Someone stole an Audi from an unlocked detached garage in the 1000 block of Oak Street between 5:45 p.m. on July 9 and 4:40 a.m. on July 10. The car was later found in Chicago with an unknown amount of damage.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
- Someone in a moving car struck another person's car with an object at the intersection of Hill Road and Ridge Avenue around 9:30 p.m. on June 12, causing an unknown amount of damage.
- A recycling bin was damaged at the 600 block of Sheridan Road between 6:30 p.m. on July 8 and 7:45 a.m. on July 9 for a loss of $100.
NORTHFIELD
INCIDENTS
DAMAGE TO VEHICLE
An employee of Medline at 3 Three Lakes Drive reported someone damaged a car's exterior side mirror sometime prior to 5 p.m. on June 5 in the company's private lot.
THEFT OVER $500
An employee of the Hi-Five Summer Camp at Christian Heritage Academy, 315 Waukegan Road, reported missing basketball equipment at 4:22 PM on June 5. Surveillance footage showed two unidentified people in a pickup truck stealing the equipment from the parking lot at approximately 11:35 a.m. The thieves were later found and identified. They returned the property and apologized, and the property owner chose not to press charges.
ATTEMPTED CAR BURGLARY
Officers responded to the 200 block of Latrobe Avenue for a report of several unidentified people checking car door handles at 1:50 a.m. on June 6. Although the suspects had left the area, surveillance footage revealed three individuals in a stolen vehicle who appeared to be looking to steal another vehicle or valuables inside. They remained in the area for about two more minutes.
COMMERCIAL BURGLARY
Officers were called to a report of a burglary at Sunset Ridge Shell, 469 Sunset Ridge Road, at 4:37 a.m. on June 12. The owner reported via surveillance that several people were actively breaking into the building. They left before police arrived, having smashed a large window next to the cash register and stolen cigarettes and about $700 in cash.
DISPUTE
Officers responded to a dispute between employees at Fields BMW, 700 W. Frontage Road, at 12:08 p.m. on June 12. Officers de-escalated the situation and no charges were filed.
CREDIT CARD FRAUD
An employee of Fields BMW, 700 W. Frontage Rd., reported around 2 p.m. on June 12 that someone had tried to buy approximately $800 in parts over the phone using a stolen credit card. The transaction was declined, preventing the loss.
CAR BURGLARY
A resident of the 1600 block of Elder Lane reported a registration document had been stolen from their unlocked car prior to 1:30 p.m. on June 26.
SUSPICIOUS INCIDENTS
- A resident of the 2000 block of Old Willow Road told police on the afternoon of June 5 that several people regularly meet in the morning in the northern area of Willow Park and go for a walk and may be doing drugs. Police have increased patrols in the area.
- Officers spoke with a resident of the first block of Garden Lane, who reported around 11:30 a.m. that a suspicious solicitor had arrived in a white box truck in their driveway a few minutes earlier. The resident described two males approached and asked if she called for rugs. They opened the back of their truck and showed her all the available “oriental” rugs. One of the males then asked to go inside the residence to provide a quote. The males stepped inside the home, however, when the resident caretaker spotted the males, they quickly departed the home and left in the truck. The resident caretaker described the males as "possibly Italian"—the subject who entered the home was approximately 5'11", 190 pounds. with short hair, wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans and black/red Nike AirMax shoes. The white box truck was described as having no lettering or a company logo and was bearing an unknown Illinois registration plate. Officers checked the home with the resident, and nothing appeared to be missing.
IDENTITY THEFTS
- A resident of the first block of Meadowood Lane reported on June 9 that they had gotten fraudulent text messages claiming to be from the Illinois Tollway requesting payment for tolls. The incident was reported to the Illinois Tollway and documented as a scam.
- A resident of the 200 block of Latrobe Avenue reported on July 12 that they had found a couple of unauthorized transactions on their credit card for less than $60.
ARRESTS
Brandon T. Taylor, 24, was arrested in connection with an Aug. 4, 2021, robbery outside Northfield Restaurant, 391 Central Ave. A manager reported that an employee was physically confronted while carrying a bank bag full of money. According to the manager, a male offender, who had his face covered, forcibly took the bag from the employee, then fled to a nearby getaway vehicle and escaped northbound on Central Ave. Taylor was identified and located in Wisconsin and brought to Cook County to face felony theft charges. His alleged accomplice, Bryanna V. Blades, was previously arrested and charged.
