NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments and court records as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.


GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a Chevrolet sedan from the parking lot of the Dunkin Donuts, 81 Green Bay Road, between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 27 after someone got into the employee area of the business and stole the keys. The car, which was valued at $5,000, was found in Troy, Michigan, the following day.

ELECTRONIC HARASSMENT
A Washington Avenue resident reported on Nov. 1 that an unidentified person had been sending them harassing text messages from numbers that have since been disconnected.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone smashed the passenger window of an Audi parked in the parking lot of the Lake Shore Country Club, 1255 Sheridan Road, between 11:30 a.m. and 2:46 p.m. on Nov. 1. and stole wireless headphones and a wallet for a combined loss of $1,300.

SHOPLIFTING
A man with a mustache stole a $13 sushi tray from the Grand Foods, 341 Hazel Ave., around 2:45 p.m. on Nov. 3.

GARAGE FIRE
Shortly before 2 p.m. on Nov. 5, the Glencoe Public Safety Department was dispatched to a report of a garage on fire in the 600 block of Country Lane. Village personnel were assisted by the Des Plaines, Glenview and Highland Park fire departments as they extinguished the fire, which remained confined to an attached garage. There was no estimated loss available at the time of the report.

IDENTITY THEFT

  • A Vernon Avenue resident reported on Oct. 25 that someone had used their identity to open a fraudulent credit card account, which was closed before any loss was reported.
  • A Brentwood Drive resident reported on Oct. 27 that someone had used their identity to open a fraudulent credit card account, which was closed without a reported loss.

WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

CAR BURGLARY
Between 5 p.m. on Oct. 28 and 7 a.m. on Oct. 29, someone got into a pair of unlocked Audis parked in a driveway in the 1100 block of Broadmeadow Road. Nothing was reported stolen.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • A Hill Road resident reported that someone intercepted a previously mailed check and made unauthorized checking transactions between Aug. 4 and Oct. 2 for a loss of nearly $4,400.
  • A Sunset Road resident reported that someone used their identity to apply for a Chase credit card between Oct. 16 and Oct. 18.
  • A Poplar Street resident reported on Oct. 31 that someone had used their identity to open a Discover credit account.
  • A Hoyt Lane resident reported on Nov. 2 that someone had used their identity to open up an AT&T account in March and rack up more than $2,000 in charges.
  • A Bertling Lane resident reported on Nov. 2 that someone had used their identity to open up a Visa credit card for a loss of more than $500.

ARRESTS

A 34-year-old Chicago woman was arrested around 2 a.m. on Oct. 25 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop near the intersection of Willow Road and Linder Avenue in Northfield. She was also issued citations for failure to signal when required, improper lane usage and expired registration.

A 52-year-old Northbrook woman was arrested around 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 27 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs following a traffic stop near the intersection of Green Bay and Tower roads. She was also issued citations for disobeying a traffic light and improper lane usage.


NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

GIFT CARD SCAM
A South Happ Road resident reported on Oct. 23 that they had been scammed into buying about $2,000 worth of gift cards after clicking on a link on an email. The link led to a purported "virus" which demanded the purchase of gift cards to remove it.

MAIL THEFT
Around 10 a.m. on Oct. 27, a resident in the 1700 block of Harding Road reported that a black Lexus SUV with two masked men had stopped in front of several houses on the block and stole mail out of a mailbox about a half hour earlier.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT
Around 9 a.m. on Nov. 1, an employee of Temple Am Yisrael, 4 S. Happ Road, reported that someone had sent a political propaganda package to a resident in New Jersey using a shipping label which had a similar name. Police said there was no criminal activity observed.

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFT
A Melrose Avenue resident reported that someone used their identity to apply for a Stride Bank Visa card and Great Lakes Credit Union Account without authorization sometime between Oct. 1 and Oct. 30.

UNDERAGE DRINKING/CANNABIS PARTY
Police issued a citation to a parent in the 600 block of Essex Road around 11 p.m. on Oct. 28 after arriving at a home to investigate a report of a party featuring underage alcohol and cannabis use.


WILMETTE

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFT
An Oakwood Avenue resident reported on Oct. 20 that they had received notifications from a bank that someone had tried to open accounts using their identity.

THEFT
Someone stole a motorized handicapped shopping cart valued at $2,500 from the Jewel-Osco, 411 Green Bay Road, on Oct. 23.

BANK SCAM
A Washington Avenue resident reported on Oct. 19 that someone stole $4,000 out of their bank account after a person purporting to be a bank representative called them up, claimed their account had been compromised and convinced them to provide their username and password.

FRAUD
A Highland Avenue resident reported on Oct. 25 that they had been notified about several fraudulent transactions to their financial accounts without any reported loss.

SHOPLIFTING
Two female thieves stole three bottles of alcohol and various other miscellaneous items from the Jewel-Osco, 411 Green Bay Road, around 10:45 p.m. on Oct. 27.

GARAGE BURGLARY
A resident in the 3100 block of Walden Lane reported on that they had left their garage door open overnight on Oct. 28 and someone had gotten into two cars parked inside and stole a $10 roll of quarters from one of them.

HOME BURGLARY
Someone broke into a first-floor apartment in the 400 block of Ridge Road between 5 p.m. on Oct. 29 and 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 30 by using brute force to get in through a rear door. Nothing was reported stolen from the unit, which was under construction at the time.

STOLEN CARS

  • Someone stole an unlocked Ford with its key fob left inside while parked in the 600 block of Forest Avenue during the overnight hours between Oct. 19 and Oct. 20.
  • A Subaru stolen between 1:15 and 3 a.m. on Oct. 28 from the 100 block of Broadway Avenue was found in Chicago after police used the manufacturers tracking app.
  • Someone stole a Toyota SUV from the 400 block of 9th Street prior to 1 p.m. on Oct. 28 after it was left unlocked. Chicago police later found it with several of its windows smashed out. Police found a license plate in the back seat that had been stolen from an Infiniti during the night of Oct. 27 or Oct. 28.
  • A Hyundai was stolen from a home in the 1500 block of Walnut Street and crashed at West Lawrence and North Sacramento avenues in Chicago around 3:45 a.m. on Oct. 30.

STOLEN BIKES

  • Someone stole an unlocked bicycle valued at $700 from an alley in the 1400 block of Lake Avenue on Oct. 20.
  • Between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 22, someone stole a locked Trek bicycle worth $800 from the Metra station at 722 Green Bay Road.
  • Someone stole an unlocked bicycle valued at $350 from a bicycle rack in the 600 block of Locust Road during the night of Oct. 14 or early morning hours of Oct. 15.
  • A stolen green All-City bicycle was located at the scene of a car theft in the 100 block of Broadway Avenue. Police contacted the owner and learned that it had been stolen from a garage in the 900 block of Greenleaf Avenue after someone obtained a garage door opener from inside an unlocked car.
  • A resident in the 400 block of Vista Drive reported at 9 p.m. on Nov. 1 that someone had stolen their son's REI bicycle after it was left unattended in front of their garage between 7 and 8 a.m. on Oct. 30.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone got into an unlocked Volvo parked in the 500 block of Forest Avenue between Oct. 22 and Oct. 23.
  • Someone stole an insurance card from an unlocked Ford SUV while it left unlocked in the 200 block of 9th Street during the overnight hours of Oct. 22 to Oct. 23.
  • Someone stole a laptop and wireless headphones from a Jeep that was left unlocked while parked in the 200 block of Greenleaf Avenue between 6 and 11 p.m. on Oct. 27.
  • Someone burglarized a Jeep parked in the 700 block of Sheridan Road between 8 and 11 p.m. on Oct. 27.
  • Around 7 p.m. on Oct. 28, someone stole about $20 and four pairs of designer sunglasses from an unlocked Mercedes in the 700 block of Sheridan Road.
  • Around 4:15 a.m. on Oct. 29, a resident in the 800 block of Leamington Avenue reported that two people were inside their carport trying to get into their locked BMW. Responding officers spotted the suspects in a stolen car fleeing southbound on Interstate 94. Police found two vehicles in the same area appeared to be burglarized, with a wallet stolen from one of them.
  • Around 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 29, a resident in the 200 block of Lockerbie Lane reported that someone had stolen a black jacket that had been left inside their unlocked Mercedes Benz the prior night.
  • An Iroquois Road resident reported on Oct. 29 that someone had gotten into their BMW after they left it unlocked.
  • Someone stole a garage door opener from an unlocked Audio parked in the 900 block of Seneca Road prior to 10 a.m. on Oct. 29.
  • Someone stole keys and $10 in cash from unlocked cars parked in the 1100 block of Ridge Road between 7 p.m. Oct. 29 and 6:15 a.m. Oct. 30.
  • A car burglar was spotted inside a car in the 2100 block of Thornwood Avenue during the early morning hours of Oct. 30.

ARRESTS

Donyell Allen, 22, of the 800 block of Judson Avenue, Evanston, was arrested on Oct. 19 and charged with felony theft in connection with a Sept. 23 report that several pieces of jewelry had been stolen from a home in the 1400 block of Forest Avenue. Detectives later learned that a newly hired dog walker had pawned the stolen jewelry.

Lindsey L. Gell, 48, of 1900 block of West School Street, Chicago, was arrested around 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 19 in the 800 block of 4th Street and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, obstructing a peace officer and possession of a controlled substance, a felony, after an officer spotted her violate several traffic laws while behind the wheel of a Jeep Gladiator. She was also issued five additional traffic citations.

Agustin Arcos, 27, of the 6000 block of South California Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 11 p.m. on Oct. 26 following a traffic stop near the intersection of Green Bay and Isabella roads and charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a license revoked for a prior DUI arrest.

Christopher Mason, 23, of the 6200 block of South Talman Avenue, Chicago, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and criminal trespass to a vehicle, in addition to a previously reported charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, who picked up additional juvenile charges of burglary, possession of ammunition without a FOID and criminal trespass to motor vehicle.

Kentrell L. Jones, 28, of the 8100 block of South Evans Street, Chicago, was arrested shortly after 6 p.m. on Oct. 28 and charged with felony unlawful possession of vehicle title after an encounter with police near the intersection of 5th Street and Washington Avenue. Police said a witness reported someone pulling on door handles, and officers found someone matching that description riding a bicycle in the area, took him into custody and, during a search, found a title document that had been taken from an Audi in an alley behind a home in the 200 block of Greenleaf Avenue. Prosecutors declined to approve burglary charges.

A 66-year-old Chicago man was taken into custody after officers called to check to see why he was lying on the sidewalk in the 1600 block of Sheridan Road around 4 p.m. on Oct. 28 learned that he had a valid arrest warrant issued by authorities in DuPage County.

Benjamin J. Meade, 33, of the 100 block of Woodbine Avenue, Wilmette, was arrested around 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 30 and charged with possession of a controlled substance after police reported they found him asleep inside of his car in his block of residence while in possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
