The Winnetka Police Department is once again participating in the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. Simply drop off expired or unused prescription drugs at the Police Department on September 27 between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, no questions asked.
If you miss the event on September 27, the Winnetka Fire Department, in partnership with the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) accepts expired/unused prescription and over-the-counter drugs on weekdays during normal business hours. You may cover the patient’s name; however, the name of the medication and dose needs to remain visible. The only medications not accepted are narcotics and other controlled substances.

In addition to collecting expired/unused medications, the Fire Department also provides a “SHARPS” Disposal Service, in conjunction with SWANCC. On weekdays during business hours, the Department accepts containers of needles, syringes and diabetic finger prick cartridges, and also offers sharps containers for the home storage of needles. When your container is full, bring it to the Fire Station toexchange it for a new one. Please use the prescribed containers and not cans or other containers, to avoid injuries to staff. NO commercial or institutional waste is accepted.
