This Is The Best Indiana City To Live In
24/7 Wall Street ranked the best city for living in each state. See what Indiana city made the list.

CARMEL, IN -- Carmel is the best city in Indiana to live in, according to a new list that ranks the best cities to reside in every state.
The list, compiled by 24/7 Wall Street, says that there is "no better city to live in the United States than Carmel, Indiana." Why? According to the publication, those who live in Carmel are healthy, wealthy and well educated, with almost 70% of adults having a bachelor's degree.
24/7 Wall Street named Carmel "America's Best City to live in" back in October, which makes sense why they give it Indiana's top place as far as Hoosier cities.

The source found that Carmel is also one of the safest places to live in the country, as nationally, there are 386 violent crimes and 2,451 property crimes reported for every 100,000 Americans annually, but just 28 violent crimes and 887 property crimes per 100,000 people in Carmel.
Carmel is also relatively inexpensive, although landing in the top quarter of the country for Indiana's median home value of $315, 200, it does make the already high incomes of its residents go even further. The typical household earns $113,194 per year, and because goods and services cost only about 90 cents on the dollar in Carmel compared to the national average, the effective median household income is equivalent to more than $125,000 when adjusted for cost of living.

Carmel's population is 90,533, 24/7 Wall St. says, with the poverty rate at 3.9%, landing in the lowest 10%.
Through its analysis, 24/7 Wall Street found that the majority of cities that made the list are home to a large share of college-educated adults than the share of college-educated adults nationwide (31.3 percent). Educated populations, 24/7 Wall Street writes, are more resilient to economic downturns.
Another trend noted by 24/7 Wall Street is that the violent crime rate for almost every city on the list is lower than the U.S. rate. The presence of cultural amenities and entertainment venues was another common factor for the cities.
To determine the best city to live in every state, 24/7 Wall Street considered the 550 cities with populations of 65,000 or more. If a state had no cities with a population of at least 65,000, all cities in the state with a population of 40,000 or more were considered.
Data was collected in nine categories:
- Crime
- Demography
- Economy
- Education
- Environment
- Health
- Housing
- Infrastructure
- Leisure
24/7 Wall Street used data from Census Bureau’s 2016 American Community Service, the FBI’s 2016 Uniform Crime Report, the Bureau of Labor Statistics and ATTOM Data Solutions. For each category, specific measures contributed to a city’s overall score.
