Gary Star Student Balances School, A Part-Time Job & Extracurriculars
Joseph won his regional public speaking competition, participates in several activities and is pursuing a career in Culinary Arts.

Gary, IN — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
Joseph is hardworking. He balances school with his part-time job. He is involved in several activities: West-Side Leadership Academy Marching Band, Indiana Gear Up, National Honor Society, The Gardening Club and JAG (Jobs for America's Graduates). He participated in JAGS Career Development Conference public speaking competition and won 1st place regionally, 3rd place in the state and then he advanced to nationals held in Florida and placed 10th.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?
Joseph loves to cook. He is pursuing a career in Culinary Arts.
