Purdue University Northwest To Celebrate Día De Los Muertos On Nov. 2

Purdue University Northwest’s (PNW) Building Community Through the Arts program is hosting a Día de los Muertos Celebration event from 5-7p.m. on Tuesday, November 2. The event also known as Day of the Dead, is a blend of Mesoamerican ritual, European religion and Spanish culture that invites families to celebrate those they have lost through food, drink, and music.

The event takes place at the Purdue University Northwest Hammond Campus located at 2233 173rd Street Hammond IN, 46323 in Alumni Hall (SULB 360B), and is free and open to the public. Traditional refreshments will be served.

Performances

Mariachi Estrellas de Chicago, a young adult mariachi band, will provide live music during the event. Ballet Folklórico Yolotzin an East Chicago, dance organization, will provide a brief history of ballet folklórico followed by a live performance featuring youth and adult dancers in traditional dress.

Activities

Families are invited to take part in various crafts and activities hosted by our student organizations.
