Merrillville is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Merrillville has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.

A few things to know:

  • Merrillville is home to the largest shopping mall in Indiana: the Southlake Mall. Shop till you drop at over 130 stores, catch a movie at the theater or dine at one of the many restaurants.
  • Nature lovers will be pleased to know that the Turkey Creek Trail offers a scenic path through the wetlands and forests of Merrillville. Keep an eye out for wildlife and enjoy the fresh air.
  • For a taste of local history and culture, visit the Merrillville-Ross Township Historical Society Museum. The museum features exhibits on early settlers, local businesses and even artifacts from the Underground Railroad.
  • Sweets lovers won’t want to miss the Albanese Candy Factory, a massive candy store with a variety of sugary treats. Don't forget to try their famous gummies!
  • If you’re looking for some activity, head over to the Dean and Barbara White Community Center. Operated by the Merrillville Parks and Recreation Department, the center offers sports leagues, an event center and programs for people of all ages.
