He was a generous and kind man who knew no stranger and could find something in common with everyone he met.

Ronald Alan Flynn, age 62, of Plainfield, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, December 19, 2021 at his beloved lakeside home on Lake Wildwood in Varna, IL.

Born August 9, 1959 in Joliet, he was the son of the late Ambrose J. and Norma J. (Hollis) Flynn. He was raised in Minooka, attended Minooka High School, and was also a graduate of North Central College, Naperville.

Ron worked as a research chemist for Stepan Chemical in Elwood, and BP Amoco Chemical Company in Naperville, before joining Heartland Home Finance. During retirement, he enjoyed serving as a substitute teacher for Minooka Community School District.

Ron was a loving and devoted husband and dad, and the doting “Papa” to his adoring granddaughter. He was a generous and kind man who knew no stranger and could find something in common with everyone he met. He loved farming and planting a large garden which allowed him to pursue some of his favorite activities which were picking corn and canning tomatoes. Following the death of his father, he relished the opportunity to help manage the Flynn family farm.

He will be remembered for his devotion to his mother in her final years, and as the caring uncle who always stayed in close contact with his nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cynthia (Bennett) Flynn of Plainfield; his son, Christopher “Chris” (Jennifer) Flynn of Shorewood; one granddaughter, Kathryn Flynn; two brothers, Donald (Gabrielle) Flynn, his twin, of Medina, OH, and Patrick (Julie) Flynn of Noblesville, IN; a sister, Sharon (Michael) Phares of Naperville, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Ronald Flynn will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 23, 2021 at 10:00 a.m., from the funeral home to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Minooka, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Cremation rites will be accorded following services and interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the Varna Fire and Ambulance, 50 Chestnut Street, Varna, IL, IL 61375 would be appreciated.
