Abraham Named New Ames Parks & Recreation Director

A man who has worked for the City of Ames for 19 years has been named as the new City of Ames Parks & Recreation Director.

Interim Parks and Recreation Director Keith Abraham assumed the new title Thursday, according to a release from the City. 

“We are pleased to promote Keith into the position based on his professional skills and commitment to our organizational values,” said City Manager Steve Schainker in a prepared statement. “After completing a thorough selection process, we believe Keith’s ability to encourage collaboration, build partnerships, and listen to our residents will help achieve our goal of providing exceptional service at the best price.”

Abraham was named as the interim parks director in February. He served as the parks department recreation supervisor from 1994 to 2012. 

“It is a great honor to be asked to lead the dedicated, hard-working employees of the Parks and Recreation Department,” Abraham said in a prepared statement. “The last few months have provided a tremendous learning opportunity for me, and I’m excited to move forward and focus on providing the excellent parks, facilities, and programs our residents expect.”
