Ames Expects to Put Snow Ordinance in Effect by 10 p.m. Tuesday

Ames residents should move their vehicles from snow routes.

The City of Ames expects to put its snow ordinance in effect by 10 p.m. Tuesday with several inches of snow forecast for the area.

The latest forecast from the National Weather Service states that snow is expected to begin falling before 9 p.m. So Ames should wake up to 3 to 5 inches of snow if the forecast proves true.

The Snow Ordinance goes into effect whenever two inches of snow falls on major arterial streets in Ames and it requires that all vehicles be removed from marked snow routes.

Emergency 
snow routes are marked by red and white signs. Vehicles parked on snow routes will be ticketed and towed, when the ordinance is in effect. The Snow Ordinance will remain in place until the streets are completely plowed and it has stopped snowing. People should try to avoid parking on all residential streets to assist in plowing efforts.
